  1. Put a camera in your hand... and shoot! It's what all the great directors did... Howard, Lee, Speilberg, Eastwood, Hitchcock, Shamalan (sp?), etc. Try coming up with your own storylines and do a 5 minute film or 10 minute short. When you start out as a film maker.... you are everything: director, writer, producer, actor, casting director-- have fun! Good luck!

  2. hey hey:)we share same aspirations:) cool:)

    lights, camera, action:):) wowowowow:)

all m doing is seeing atleast 4-5 movies per week:) that way u atleast get a satisfaction & u feel connected 2 the industry:) more-over many a times this itself serves as motivation:):)

u may buy a handy-cam & start shooting documentaries:)it wud be so much of fun:)

u may even direct ur school-plays:) i was lucky enough 2 do one:) & guess what? that was a complete blunder.. hahahah:) anyways learnt a lot from it:)

and and:) if u r lucky enough 2 live in tinsel-town:) i.e. mumbai u may visit some studios & film-sets:) that itself will be a great boon:)

sounds fun:) will be ur competitor in coming years.. hehehe:)

    Best Wishes:)

    May we become successful directors:)

    have a (:*:) star

  3. buy a camcorder and take it with you on adventures that you go on! you can take it anywhere and one day a great idea will form in your head of what to capture once that idea has formed in your mind go out and produce your film then you can enter your film into some short film contests or you can post them online and wait to be discovered!

  4. As Producer or Director....?

  5. Aim to go to film school. Most large cities have one. My son went to Columbia College in Chicago. The benefit of film school is not only the knowledge gained but the networking possibilities.

He is now in business renting equipt, providing lights on local productions, shooting events for editing, selling lighting and other equipt, trouble shooting, providing emergency services for last minute productions, etc. He has a good following, and he is appreciated by many in business, academia, and the private sector. And all this in a weak economy.

  6. 1) First of all, have something to say. I lot of Bollywood movies are made by people who have lots of money and time to waste, but nothing useful to say.

    2) By the time you grow up, it will be very cheap to make films. The celluloid required in yesteryear's was very expensive. Now you can make a fully digital film. In future, you will be able to transfer the digital film to theatres via the Internet.

    3) Buy the best digital video camera you can afford, and start making short clips. Then post them on Youtube and send me a link to review.

    4) Download free video editing software from the net. The video editing software which comes with your digital video camera has limited capabilities.

    5) Learn to Play some musical instrument. This should help you compose background music for your film, or be able to talk to musicians whom you may engage.

    6) Write some script and enact it as a Play or Youtube video requiring 3-4 actors. Then Direct the actors. This will help build your skills in organising people working together. If not your own script, you could pick up any short story that you read, to enact.

    7) If writing your own script, do research the subject matter thoroughly, so that the viewers get value for their time/money when watching your films.
