  1. I assume you're a boy; you're obviously not done growing.  So DO NOT start lifting weights or doing plyometrics until you're done growing, as this can r****d your bone growth.  You will probably reach your peak height around 16 or so, and at that time, your testosterone levels will be flying, so with proper training you will really add some muscle.

For the time being, do a lot of core work, push-ups, and other body weight resistance exercises to build strength.  Run a lot of high-speed intervals to build up fuel mix conditioning (jogging will not help).  And start speed/agility workouts on your own.  This includes things like ladder drills and acceleration drills; these are anaerobic exercises, so you should not be tired when doing these workouts and you should take proper rests between repetitions and sets.  If you want to stay in the backs then speed and agility are very important; conditioning and strength are somewhat less important (but should not be neglected!).

Do not be preoccupied with getting big.  You are young and have a lot of growth ahead of you. This is not bodybuilding, and the biggest players are not necessarily the best or even the strongest.  When you do start lifting, remember that power is very important, and is distinct from strength (power being the ability to exert force quickly).  Power will help you break through defenses and make effective tackles.

Focus on the sport, and focus on your position.  Everything you do should be geared for rugby.  Big biceps and chest may score points on the beach, but they will not improve your game.  What is important is that you focus on improving your skill by playing as much as possible, and that you focus on rugby-specific fitness in a healthy and realistic way.  You are a young man, and you will naturally feel the urge to get big and score lots of chicks; if you want to be a rugby player, fight this urge!  Little guys who play an awesome game get laid all the time.

Dan Luger and Paul Pook put out a really good book, Complete Conditioning for Rugby.  I highly recommend it.

  2. Just continue playing, develope your skills and you will grow over time with a healthy diet and regular exercise!
