Question:

I'm 14 and I lack confidence. Help?

I'm not really insecure about myself, I just don't have mental confidence. Here's an example, if I get yelled at to stop talking during school my face usually turns bright red, and I feel embarrassed, even though it's no big deal

Also, I'm just starting high school. So I'm kinda nervous about having classes with upperclassmen and having them look at me funny, or make fun of me just because i'm a little freshman.

So I was wondering how I could build up my mental confidence?

  1. Focus on the things you are good at and enjoy doing. Working on your strengths will give you confidence, while improving on your weaknesses requires confidence. Also, avoid drawing negative attention to yourself, like the talking in class example you gave. When people see you excelling at the things you're good at (your best sport, subject, musical instrument, etc.) you'll draw positive attention from them, and that will give you more confidence.

    Hope this helps!

  2. stop being so self conscious..

  3. Don't care what others think about you. I'm not telling you to stop looking good. It's easy for me since I only have a couple of friends that are similar to me and I don't really pay attention to all the other kids at my school.

  4. It's the nature of being 14 to lack confidence and not be sure abut yourself. Many things are happening to you right now, including many changes. Things will settle down in a few years and you will feel much more confident.

At least I hope this is true...I have two grand-daughters who are just about that age...

  5. I know that feeling. Im insecure in the first place but if i get yelled at to pay attention in class or something i get really embarrassed and i get this knot in my throat and i ffeel really small, so i know where you're coming from. What i try to do to make myself feel better is to tell myself that its not a big deal at all, there are plenty of other people in school who get in trouble for worse things and who get yelled at all the time for talking. Also remind yourself that no one is gonna remember this in 10 minutes. It's ok. Everyone's allowed mistakes =]. good luck with your confidence!

  6. Your mindset.

Accept that you are you, and you are unique.

You do NOT have to live life to others expectations.

Whatever others say, do, or think is THEIR problem!

  7. Stay focused and develop your interests.

  8. I have the same issue as you but i sometimes start crying while i turn red. You can build your mental confidence by trying to just let it go. let people's remarks bounce right off of you like you are rubber. It is a difficult thing to do, i havent mastered it yet but your confidence will build over time.
