i just started ballet recently. and now i'm doing both primary and grade one ballet. i'm discontinueing primary soon and i hope to discontinue my grade one ballet sooner or later. but first, i have to improve and be better. do you guys have tips?

ok, i need more help because i joined a class of first graders who are already dancing quite well and i sometimes do not know what they are doing. so can you please give me the grade one syllabus, i mean, the list of steps performed in grade one, and perhaps some websites that demonstrate them too. because well, i hope i can do better and skip to a higher grade. i don't want to stay in grade one with a group of people half of my age forever. so please help me? is there some place that i can download the music? so that i can play it and practise on my own? i'm really determined to succeed this time.

  1. Sometime I think we forget what we pay dance teachers for. (that's a blanket comment - I see this in the social dance scene all the time).

Young lady, what I would encourage you to do is arrange a meeting - or, if you want to impress, invite her to tea. Sit with her and ask exactly what it is you need to do to improve.  Ask her about practice music.  And more importantly, ask her about private lessons - a private lesson or two may be just the thing to kick you into shape.

Age in the classroom is irrelevant.  I started ballet at age 4 to you have LOTS of catch up in.

  2. Most grade one classes do plies, tondues, arabesces, shanaes, sometimes perruettes but mostly just like cross over turn and sometimes just like side leaps, but not switch leaps (sry i'm a bad speller. You can ask your teacher to borrow a cd or itunes or you might have a cd with classical or just slow music to practie to. Also work on flexibility, leg/ankle strength and balance this will help you escpecially when you move to a higher level.
