On the bottom right hand side of my mouth, there is a large flap of red gum over one of my molars and it hurts like heck. Could it be an impacted molar?

  1. It sounds like an impacted wisdom tooth. I have them still and I am going to be 45 yrs old. My first dentist told me at 30 I didn't have any. Ouch! All my wisdom teeth were impacted. Get them taken care of as soon as you can, they can really wreak havoc on healthy teeth you already have.

  2. I'm not a dentist but it sounds like a wisdom tooth, they can take years to come out.  It might seem lame but the best pain reliever is baby teething gel (Bonjela).

  3. Hard to say.  It could be a wisdom tooth -- some people get them in as early as 12 years old.  Your best bet is to see your dentist.  He/She can tell you what it is and can recommend options for treating your pain.  It's not a good idea to ignore it because the problem could get worse and you may have to deal with major surgery down the road if you let it go.
