I'm old enough to play varsity, I really love football but I'm not very good at it.

  1. Play or quit, the coach told you your not varsity material, you said it yourself your not that good and he knows players better than you know yourself so play a year at JV then play varsity the next season once you learn the sport.

  2. Play where the coach puts you. Old enough doesnt matter. You yourself say youre not very good. Which tells me that youre JV material. Youre not ready for Varsity and the coach sees that. Beside if you do make the team on Varsity will you be a starter? Probably not. But on JV you very well may be a starter. So which is better? To play on JV or ride the pine on Varsity?

  3. Play JV and ask him what you can do to improve.  For example, if the problem is strength - hit the weight room.  Football, at the non-skill positions is a lot of desire and want to.

  4. It is not up to you. The coach desides. Go, play your very best and you will get to the level you belong this year.

  5. Play were the coach says, put work and play hard to get to the next level.

  6. if you said you're not very good at it, you answered your question.

im in a similar situation as you, except the varsity coach wanted me to play varsity and praised my heart, intensity and technique but i injured my shoulder so hes having me play jv this year.

my advice to you, just play jv this year, get better so next year you can maybe start on varsity.

  7. take the chance. at my school jv would practice with varsity. your coach probably wants you to play with bigger, older people, to gain experience. plus you will be coached by him and he will be able to make you progress like he would like you to.

  8. Play JV.  If there is one thing that we all know to be true about football (at least until the pro level) it's that the coach is always right and the players are his pawns to move around has he pleases.  It's clear that the coach thinks 1) you're not good enough for varsity; or 2) he has enough talent at your talent and he doesn't need you but the JV team does.

Play JV, practice hard, play hard, be the best JV team player that you can be and then maybe you'll be able to move up to varsity in the future.
