Good hands and pace as i used to play on the wing. My only worry is my height, 5 foot 11 and weight, 10.5 stone. Am i destined never to grace the second row?

  1. Try number 8

  2. your too short mate even for a flanker and too lite to be a lock maybe if you are playing in japan you could be a flanker but not in NZ..If you were playing league there would be no problem cause there are no line outs and the league scrums dnt push, the scrum in rugby league is only used to restart your plays.

Stick to the centres it will benefit you better ..good luck bro

  3. Yes, you can play lock. If not for your club, find a club that will give you minutes there.

  4. Locks start at 6"6 but if you're this tall at 15 there's probably a few more inches in you!!

  5. Have you played lock before?, why do you want to?. If you got pace and size why not try number 8. You can still be a jumper in the line out.

  6. How big are the locks on your team?

Also, could you do the job better than them?

By the sounds of things, your pace would be wasted in the second row anyway. Stick at loose forward for now.

  7. Why on earth would you want to play lock? You sound like a natural center or flank, which are much more fun to play in anyway.

For a lock, height is absolutely crucial - to be a decent club lock, you must be at least 1.95 meters.

I'd say stick with flank or center (my favourite) until you hit 18 years, then you'll get an idea of how tall you turn out. If you're near 6'4 or taller by that time, you can always switch to lock.

Or you can switch between flank and lock, like Danie Rossouw of South Africa.

  8. dude,

who wants to play second row u get front row players arses as earmuffs

and given ur size and speed you sound like a destined back row player

i myself am only 5"8 and im a utility player ive played 8 positions this season but am best at flank

i have played secondrow and believe me it's hard when ur short

plus flank sees a lot more of the ball and of the rucking

however if it is where you wana be

we have a secondrow whowighs 12 + 1/2 stone but it's all muscle so it can be done. he got player of the season

    hope this helps

oh and as you have the close season to work with then you should work on ascrum machine and get used to the pressure on your shoulders and buold the strength in ur legs so you can prove nto ur coaches aswell as urself that you can do it

there are allways exceptions to the rule last month i played a scrum half who was about 4"11 and he was one of the best players on the field

    hope all this helps

    plus good luck next season

  9. no

    too big

  10. Why would you ever want to play 2nd row?  Trust me, I did it all through college before I switched to 8-man.  2nd row does all the work and gets NO glory.  The scrums make you very dizzy.  Rugby is the best sport in the world, but 2nd rowing sucks.  To be a effective 2nd row you really need to be the same height/ stregnth as the other second row for the scrum to move straight and tight.
