  1. Go with game improvement irons.  If you go to forged blades or even players clubs it will make it harder to hit the ball in the center of the clubface.  Go with Taylor Made R7 irons, regular, not the TP.  They are tight, easy to hit, long, and don't look very big at adress.  Work on your short game!  100 yards and in.

  2. Stay away from the game improvement irons if you want to get better. These types of clubs are designed for people with no interest in putting in the time and effort to improve. If you buy a set of blades or lower offset cavity backs, you'll get a better feel for what you are doing right and wrong in your golf swing, and will be able to build a better swing. You might lose distance and may very well see your scores get worse before they get better, but in the long run you will become a better golfer because of it.

  3. What are game improvement irons? This term escapes me, unless someone is trying to convince you that certain irons will be improving your game. The proper swing will improve your game. A balanced set of irons might contribute to improvement but the best parameter is the feel of the club in your hand. Does it feel comfortable? Is the grip right? Do you feel the club head at the base of the shaft? Does it have a comfortable swing weight? If you can answer "Yes" to all the questions , you are good to go.

  4. I dont understand the answer above me.  Generally game improvement irons are meant for people that are stationary in their progress.  If you are improving, id say get more advanced irons.  How are you going to get better by getting easier to use clubs?  The forged blades are less forgiving, but A LOT more versatile when it comes to shot shaping.  I recently went from some oversized taylormade irons to mizuno mp-67...and i beat my personal course record by 8 strokes.  If you want to progress then get the more advanced irons.

  5. Please understand... FORGED can also mean cavity back irons. Forging is a process not a type of iron. When an iron is forged it is made in a process that renders the alloy of the clubhead softer than that of an iron that is cast. Now forged irons will give you a certain feel on solid shots and more spin and control. That's why people play them. But if you get forged cavity back irons you have a club that is a little more forgiving than a solid or "Muscle-back" design. Both of these styles can be described as "Blade-Style" irons. This is what i would recommend for you. Maybe something cavity-back but blade style. There will be an adjustment period and you will be frustrated but you will find these clubs much more receptive to the control you are trying to put over them. I would suggest getting fitted at a proshop or Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy or something like that. Then once you narrow down what you want find them used. Not worn but used. Since you're 16 you are going to need new ones in a year so go used. The Ping G10 are nice clubs but are a little more forgiving than you need. Take a look at these links and try to find something in this region.

All of these sets are rated in good condition and will be more forgiving than a muscle-back iron set but will be better control than an open back iron set.

    Good luck

  6. Yes get the Blades they are harder to hit than g.i.i(Game Improvement Irons) but if your a good golfer they are the clubs of choice more feel and you will be able to work the ball and Game Improvement Irons will straighten out shots you are trying draw or fade plus you will feel all your miss hits which game improvement irons will hide making you think your hitting the sweet spot when your not

    SO GET SOME FORGED IRONS!!!!!

P.S. Get fitted for the clubs its the most important thing you can do

  7. you should sell your golf clubs, it's over

  8. When I was your age I was on about the same handicap. I managed to get myself down to about 7 with "game improvement" irons but then I stagnated. I bought some forged blades and my handicap went to 1 in about 6 months. I lost at least a club and a half in distance but more than made up for that in shot shaping and distance control and consistency.

  9. yep as your game gets better so should your clubs

  10. hmm this is difficult.  I am same except im 17.  It depends, if you can hit your irons well as in straight and long go with the forged.  However if you are looking to improve your iron game stay away from the forged.  They will own you.  I personally recently updated to some Nike NDS irons and they are game improvement and ive lowered my handicap to about 8.
