I am a pretty good ball handler. I can get to the whole but i want to be able to finish with authority. It seems like when ever i get past some one with a move they almost catch up with me. I would appreciate some help with tips or drills. I can dunk off of an alley-oop sometimes. But its hard to take the ball up with me.

  1. practice your moves with weights on urself. like a weighted vest or ankle weights. this will improve ur speed and strength on each move.

  2. Hit the weightroom. Do squats. As an athlete you want to do every rep explosively when you're lifting so that you train your muscles to develop force quickly. If it takes too much time, you won't be able to use your strength in sports action. Squats will help you jump higher, run faster, blow by people on your first step, and be strong when you get contact from defenders. Go here http://verticalleaptraining.blogspot.com

  3. u can use a program called air alert which will help ur jumping problem and loose weight and train ur legs also time ur self how fast u are at running and maybe do angle training but don't stress ur self

  4. Think "old school".

I recommend working on 3 aspects of your game:

    1. Master reverse layups with either hand. That way when someone catches up with you, they have no idea of whether you'll take the shot straight up or go to a reverse layup. Or some other variation.

    2. Bank shots. George Gervin (San Antonio) and Sam Jones (Celtics) were masters of the bank shot. Others excelled at it including Bill Walton and Kevin McHale. Requires a lot of practice. Devote some shooting sessions to nothing but bank shots. Other sessions to nothing but non-backboard shots. Have lots of weapons in your shooting arsenal.

    3. Developing strong wrists, hands, and fingers. Get a medicine ball and learn how to use it effectively. Spend some time in the weight room and practice sets of 10 using powerlifting techniques. When you are squatting 315 pounds, that's the equivalent of carrying an NFL offensive lineman on your back. The goal in basketball for you would be that when people hacked you, it wouldn't alter your shot that much.

    Good luck!
