  1. Your best bet is to contact your local Citizens Advive Bureau and make an appointment with their Income Maximisation Team, take with you all the information you have regarding any benefits, including Housing and Council Tax benefits and any other income or Tax Credits you may have, they know the law and what the Government says you need to live on and can tell you whether a part time job will affect your benefits and if so by how much.  They really do know their stuff.

  2. You can work up to 16 hours and still claim Income Support and Housing Benefit. If you work over 16 hours you still get Housing Benefit but your Income Support will stop.

See here for details on Income Support:

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndB...

  3. If you are receiving Income support you are allowed to earn £5.00 per week £10.00 for couples/disabled before it affects your  IS anything over that amount is taken off pound for pound therefore if you earn over the amount you currently receive on IS then you would no longer be able to claim. It would also mean them re-evaluating your entitlement to Housing Ben etc. You could check this out on a great website called Entitledto, putting in an estimate of what you might earn doing a part time job and see if you'd be any better off. You can also have a chat with someone at the jobcentre who will be able to do a better off calculation for you.

  4. I can only assume that you are studying full-time at a college or university... so...

Contact the school or whoever manages your income support and housing benefit... there is usually an allowable amount that can be earned before it will effect your benefits.
