Hey all - i have a quick question..

I want to know how much insurance would be if i get a 1985 Corvette -

- i am 17 years old

- i am a male

- i live in New York

- i have VERY good grades (i heard you can get discounts if so)

And just to get everyone off my back now (lol) -.... I AM going to be paying for the CAR as WELL as the insurance.. i just worked my butt off this year and managed to save up around 10k for a car / insurance - so please dont state how i am just spoiled using my parents money and etc.

I am responsible and i DONT need to read about how its a fast car and what not. This has been my favorite car for years now and i want to have it not to race, show off, impress others.. but just to collect it as a goal that i have had and use it as a daily car to get to school and work!

I dont need sites where i can get quotes, because i already know all that gibberish (lol) - i just want a close estimate of how much it can be for full insurance on a 1985 corvette if i am 17, male, in NY, with very good grades.

Thanks so MUCH in advance!

  1. Hey Barry... Congrats on the new purchase. The best thing to do is call around to some different insurance companies ie; Gieco, allstate, statefarm American family etc.. It's free. The cost is really going to depend on the covergae you want. If it's just liability (which most states require) it's going to be fairly reasonable. Full coverage is going to cost more. I have 2 sons around your age and liability alone runs about $110 per month. Good luck

  2. good grades or not yor 17 an unproven driver owning a dam fast car that has high insurance already no matter who you are and are at the age all of us old boy have to prove ourselves, even if you swore on a stack of bibles youd keep it under fity they are gonna hit ya hard, they would believe you would keep it under 50 in first gear only.

  3. Good, I'm glad to hear that you saved your own money for it  Yesterday I was reading a question about a guy your age getting a Dodge Viper as a first car.  That just mad me sick because he was serious too!!  I don't think there's any problem having a used Corvette as a first car as long as you're responsible and a good driver.

Even though most people consider C4 Vettes to be a summer sports car, they're actually pretty well rounded cars in general.  Their 5.7 TPI V8s produce a good amount of power, are reliable and get about 15mpg city/22mpg highway.  They also have a notable amount of luxury features like leather seats and a unique digital dash display.  Plus, hardtop versions have a surprising amount of space in the rear hatch.

As far as insurance is concerned, I don't think it would be 'blood sucking' on a mid-late 80s Vette if you have good grades.  But the only way to know for sure is to check.

  4. Don't worry, the car is not fast.

I believe you'd be lucky to have 190 horsepower, probably less.

    Crossfire fuel injection was c**p.

You need to get a quote from a site.

Too many variables go into your rates.  Why don't people get this idea through their heads???

  5. Try to have as much information as you could perhaps is one of the options, however it is labor consuming, here is the place i have ever had good experience with.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...
