  1. No its a perfect time. People have made champ starting in their twenties.

13-18 is fine.Anything below 12 years in not useful anyway. Boy's bodies, and speed and co-ordination are so much differently proportioned to a man, that boxing before that age is not much benefit to boxing later anyway.

If you are worried some guy who started at 13 has a few more years than you, then just train harder than he does. If he has always gone twice a week and you go four times, you will have more experience than him in a few years anyway :)

  2. No, you're not. I started at the age of 21! Good luck.

  3. Your not too old. i started at 17. it is just a matter of how much you want it. Train hard and listen to your trainer. good luck.

  4. no 17 is a great age to start learning at. find a good to train at, train hard, and you may become great. good luck

  5. no ur not

  6. That's a perfect time to start boxing!.. In my Dad's gym in Oakland, California ("King's Gym..it's in the book), they won't even let anybody sign-up unless they're above the age of 8, which is when I started and that was at a YMCA.. The reasoning behing that is due to the discipline and focus that most kids don't have at that age...

I started at 8 which is rare but I was that exception to the rule.. But I didn't have my first fight until I was 16, which was in the San Francisco Golden Gloves...At that point in my life, I obviously had an idea of how serious the sport is/was and what it would take for me to be successful and most importantly, NOT GET HURT..

Then to go one better if you will, I didn't turn professional until I was 27!  Of course that's up to you and your discretion... I knew I was ready  by then and didn't have much time to wait since boxing is clearly a young person's sport. Being youthful in the sport of boxing is definitely an inherit advantage...Now I'm in my mid-40s and I have recently put my hands to rest and I'm proud to say that I'm still quite healthy.. Oh and the reason why I didn't turn pro 'til I was 27 was because I was a career Navy man..

We all take our own paths in life..

So in closing I'll leave you with the fact that you know what you want and what your willing to do in life to get it..
