I'm 17 years old and want to do volunteer work.

I'm only 17, and am really interested in doing some volunteer work in the Cape Cod, MA area. I was wondering if anyone knew any organizations that take volunteers that aren't 18, and don't have a college education as I haven't gone yet. I've been trying to find something using Google, but haven't been very successful. I'm thinking about asking my school Guidance Counselor if he knows of any opportunities, but I can't do that for about another month.

Thanks for your help.

  1. Find an elderly person who lives alone and has no one to check on her.  You could make a big difference in one person's life. /

  2. Mike,

First of all, I'm a graduating social worker and I commend you for your helpfulness.  Try a senior citizens center or some nursing homes in the area.  Some of these nursing home residents are so sad.  They have virtually no family that comes to visit.  My mother was placed in one about a month ago, and I developed a family of friends.  I couldn't believe it, but many of them were 26 to 40 years of age.  They were there from wrecks or accidents leaving them disabled.  They are starving for someone to talk to.  Good luck.
