I have awesome people skills, I can and do make friends with anyone, I see the good in everyone but know when to draw the line all too well, my veiws are biased but not towards getting rich and famous but to truly making a difference. I believe that the people elect me to represent them and I should be used as a voice of the people to give everyone what they want within reason, I'm a man loyal to my country and above all to God, and I truly believe politics is my calling because I am meant to make a difference. So to the point, My question is-where do I start and where do I go after I've begun the journey?

I'm about to enroll in college, What do I take?

  1. Some of the previous answers are note worthy.

It helps to be rich, but that is not absolutely necessary. A lot depends on which college you are attending. A degree from one of the big ones is advantageous. You can get into Yale if your high school grades are excellent and your people and social skills are good enough. You can get financial assistance from Yale if they want you. You will have to be recommended by your High School teachers. Go there first. If they will give you an outstanding recommendation you have a start and a chance.

There are other schools that have a degree of prestige attached  to a diploma from them. They can also help financially if you need it. You should write to at least five colleges selling your self to each one.

A political science degree is good and a law degree is better. If you could get both you would have a large plus on your side, but you need to have some other attributes that you can tout as to why people should vote for you rather than your opponent. You should start at a local level such as a city council. You will have to work hard and make great grades. This will separate you from some of the the rich folks at your school.

I have an ingrained distrust of religious politicians. Factually I don't like them. I feel they cannot always be rational if their judgment is clouded in religious fog.

Being religious should not handicap you; just don't over do it.

Your religion is your business, keep it that way.

Don't become an activist, that will label you.

Remember, that to become a politician, you have to be elected.

Don't give up and good luck.

  2. i would say anything that could be used as prelaw would work, political science is an obvious answer but also history, business, or even economics could work

  3. Well, I'd have to say that your chances are pretty slim.

Since you have to "enroll" in college, instead of letting daddy's money get you a spot, you're already at a significant disadvantage.

To be a politician, you have to be rich, so do whatever you can do to become filthy rich.

    Then get into politics.

  4. become a lawyer..most of the biggees are
