i turned 18 in may but i still have to be home by 12 every night. I can't move out because i'm a senior in high school. I don't do bad things...my parents even tell me how much they appreciate how good i am. But i'm 18...i don't want to leave a party at 11:30 to be home by 12. I'm not getting drunk or doing terrible things. I'm not asking to stay out till 5 but i want to stay out later than midnight. how can i convince them to let me stay out later?

and yes...i want to move out but that isn't an option right now.

  1. Put your phone on silent and stay out as late as you want. If they yell at you tell them that you are an adult. If they think that you were off doing drugs, and or drugs that you will take a drug test to prove that you don't do that.

  2. you live with them its there rules.....nothing you can do to change there minds......its your last year of school deal with it and pretty soon you will have ur freedom.

  3. You are an adult at 18, but you're still in your parents house and in high school....It doesn't seem to be too unreasonable to have some rules although maybe you could convince them to lighten up a little on the weekends.

  4. Dear friend, if you are leaving with your parents, you have to follow their rule. It doesn not matter how old are you. They are expecting the best from you.

  5. Talk to your parents about this.  You are an adult now, so maybe they will consider letting you stay out later.  I commend you doing what your parents ask and not disobeying.  Because you live there, you do have to live by their rules. Doing so will make your case stronger when you speak to them

  6. The bottom line is your beholden to whoever is paying for your food, shelter, etc. Whether it is your parents or another relative or even a friend when someone else pays your way your choice is to do their bidding or move out and support yourself. It is a reality of life we all had to endure. That is why we cant wait to move out. If parents let us do whatever we wanted we would never leave home and become independent.

The only other thing you can try is to get them to add half an hour on a probation time thing and if that goes ok for a few months maybe they will add another half hour. If they arent willing to be reasonable then start saving your money.

  7. You need to find a way to gain their trust, if somehow you saved somebody's life or something like that, I'm sure they wouldn't mind how late you stayed out.

  8. I am 18 and if i was still at home with my dad and stepmom they wouldnt let me go anywhere!!! so you are lucky that you get to stay out that late! but maybe try telling them that you will call every few hours to let them know how you are. or sit down with them and just be like listen...! i hope you get what you want! God Bless

  9. You're 18.  You're of legal age.  Now you get to make many decisions for yourself, good or not-so-good.

But wait, what "adult" do you know that often stays out past mid-night?  Not too many!

Besides, it's THEIR house, and THEY make the rules.

You want to live there?...you follow the rules of the house.

  10. You can legally move out, even though you are in school. They can't kick you out until after school. If you can, move out.
