WTF.

I am 19, this has got to stop!

He was even on my laptop reading an email from an ex of mine.

I can't believe this is happening...every time I try to say something, he just starts laughing!

  1. *sigh* Sorry, but moving out is the only real answer. If you're in his house, he probably thinks he can do whatever he wants. Yeah, it's wildly disrespectful, but some fathers have trouble letting go of the control they got used to having over their daughters.

  2. Move out.

  3. well you are going yo college right.........so then if you are then you no longer have the problem just live on  and move your stuff campus

  4. move out.  you are still living under his roof you still have to abide by his rules.

  5. I disagree with the people that say that because you are living in his house, you are subject to his rules, so his invasion of your privacy is okay. It's not. There are basic standards of decency that he s violating. Privacy is very important, and you can't ever feel comfortable in a place if you feel it is compromised. It's basic etiquette that snooping is wrong, whether its on your partner's emails, or in the medicine cabinet of someone's house that you're at. Parents snooping on their children are wrong, because it breaks any bonds of trust and shuts down the communications needed to keep the kid safe.

If he just starts laughing when you bring it up, he obviously thinks its funny that you're upset, and is not taking your objections seriously. So he won't stop. What you need to do is take precautions. You can set your laptop to lock whenever the screensaver comes on or it is shut, so  a password is needed to get into the desktop. That will keep him out of there. For other personal items, like photos, notes, letters, etc I would suggest getting a locking file cabinet. If you can't get ahold of one of those you can just get a normal trunk and put a combination lock or a bike lock on it to keep him out. Good luck!

  6. You're being 19 makes a difference how?  Because you're not younger than 18 and are an adult?  Hate to break it to you but you're only an adult if you're paying your own way which should include your own place so your dad can't go through your stuff.  Now if he's breaking into your place to look at your laptop then there are laws to deal with that and you do have a right to be mad at him.

  7. You need to make yourself clear. Don't make it seem like you're even remotely okay with it.

Something along the lines of "Dad, I'm an adult and I need my space. Please stay out of my room."

If he starts laughing, continue with

"Dad, I need you to stay out of my room. I'm not joking with you those are my things for my eyes only. If I wanted you to see them I'd put them on display."

And there are some precautions that just need to be taken like there should be some sort of locking device on your computer like using a lock and plenty of passwords. Don't make it something your dad knows about you, like your family dog or something. I know this seems a little drastic but you can always buy a container and attach a lock onto it for things you really want to keep away. Your Dad will really get the message if he sees that.

P.S I've had parents that have done the same thing up until I moved out!

  8. if you can, put a lock on your door(combo lock so he cant find the key somewhere)... and if it's you;re laptop, put a password on it. why is your email open, anyway? last resort- move out. he sounds like he's being an ***.

  9. Talk to your mom about it. she will talk to your dad.

That is really crazy. My dad is kind of the same way.

    actually, my mom is.

    but whatever.

talk to your mom. it will all work out.

    GOOD LUCK!
