Question:

I'm 21, and is it too late to take Ballet for the first time?

I want to learn ballet, and other forms of dance. But I believe Ballet is the most readily available in my town.

I am 21, female, and healthy. I have energy, enjoy stretching, and SO love to watch dance, and I find it so inspiring. I wish I took it when I was younger, and wish to do it now!

Is it too late?

  1. yes unless u want to be in the first year class with 6 year olds...

  2. No....it's only too late if you can't walk...lol.  Find an adult beginnner class, or even intermediate, because it will be much easier now then when you were younger.  I had one year of Ballet, Tap and Jazz in high school, then 20 years later started "Clogging", and wish I had done it sooner.  Talk about fun, and good exercise.  Don't sell yourself short, you are NOT to old to dance.

  3. It's never too late to start something new. Just do it.

  4. never to late

  5. Its never too late to join clubs.

  6. It is so sad that some people are so close minded about starting late. I started late 13 ( its late in the dance world) but its definately not to late for you either. You wont have to take classes with six year olds in fact most dance studios offer begginer adult classes or you can do private classes. If you want to get professional you will have to work double time. and I mean 6 days a week for a couple of hours because most ballerinas have been on pointe since 13 or 14. If you simply wish to dance for the sheer joy and excitement of dancing and just wish to do local performances take a dance class once or twice a week or what ever you feel comfortable with. I believe that no age limit should be put on dancing if you know you love to dance, then dance no matter what age you are

  7. nope its never to late unless ur 65

  8. There are plenty of classes for adults. I'm older than you and started it, tho I did have earlier dance training. However it is too late to be a professional ballerina.

  9. No! noone can be to old to start ballet unless you like 90 good luck!

  10. ideally you start when you're about 7or 8 but it's never too late just work hard and practice every day yoga helps with flexibility crunches help with turns and stretch before you dance at all ,good stretches are the butterfly sit down put you feet together and flap you knees like a butterfly then the frog lay down on your stomach with your legs in back and bend your knees so your leg are open keep your pelvis on the ground and try to touch your feet to the ground next the splits all of them  start with lunges if you can't do the splits yet then the pike stretch sit down legs strait out in front and bend over and grab your feet if you don't understand look it up on youtube.com  hope i helped =^..^= P.S feel free to email me any time

  11. NO its never 2 late! Meany places have bigner ballet for adults! Just look around in your town!

  12. dance is just something u do, u don't have to b young or flexible to do it, as long as u work hard, ur definitely ready for it! i think u should really go for it!

    good luck!

  13. NO!!! Of course you're not to old. You won't start with six-year-olds. you'll be with people your age or maybe a little older. I'm a dancer and EVERY studio I've been to has had classes for adults and I'm sure there are some where you live. It's a good thing it seems like you really want to do this and are healthy and love stretching because i can't guarantee it will be easy.  That also depends on your goals. whether or not you just want to do it for fun or if you hope to put it into a part of your career.  But you're never too old. you can do a yahoo search i  you wan to. i would but i don't know where you live.

  14. It's never to late to do something you're passionate about!!!

I don't know what dance studio Julie goes to, but it's obviously one that doesn't have a broad range of classes. Don't listen to whatever she said, you won't be put in a class with little children unless you go to a tiny dance studio that only offers classes up to a certain age.

I know at my dance studio we offer an Adult Tap and an Adult Jazz. For ballet the adults are mixed in with a class of teenage beginners (around the ages of 16-18), so they won't be dancing with 7 year olds.

You have to go to a studio that offers adult classes, or at least has classes for different age groups at different levels. I suggest searching the Yellow Pages and at the dance studios near where you live. Call each of them up and ask if they have any adult ballet classes. There has to be at least one or two that do. Then go and visit the ones that offer them and see which one suits what you're looking for!

    Hope I could help! :)

  19. its never too late to start dancing. some dance studios offer adult ballet classes made specifically for adults who want to start ballet or other forms of dance. hope that helps!

  20. It is never too late! I know at my dance studio, along with may others, they offer adult beginner classes. I've taken the class a few times, and it is very relaxed, simple, and fun. Something like that might be perfect for you, because you are learning ballet with other adults/ friends, while having a lot of fun at the same time!

  21. no not at all! Im in an adult hip hop class and i do an adult fencing. im 16.. but the fencing and hip hop class im in has many adults. its never too late to learn something new. good for you!
