I'm 21. WHY can't I get a JOB ?

Freshly 21, only high school education.

BUT... I have worked several jobs previously, mostly warehouse type. Posted upon my resume are just some of the jobs I have worked at. Now i realize it may look like "job bouncing" to a potential employer, but most of my jobs are short term. I typically send a cover letter which I come up with in my own creative writing towards the company I apply for, and obviously, ALWAYS have a resume, and if i apply in person, i add a binder sheet to it too, so its all nice and what not... I also have references which i staple behind my resume...

That's just a little information onto where I stand... Most of the jobs I do apply for are online, since no body seems to do them in person anymore. The first link is the resume I USED to use, which now thinking about it, is probably a good reason no one looked at it. The second link, is my NEW and impoved resume.

Which resume do you think is better?

Also, I am thinking that since I live in a place where I once heard the unemployment rates are the highest in the US, (Vancouver WA next to PORTLAND...) maybe thats why I got this problem. I try pretty much anywhere now. I have NOT tried fast food joints yet, since I have worked there before and all yall know how horrible they are.. BUT i just might try them soon. The situation I am in is a pretty desperate one actually... I need to get a job within a month or I risk being homeless. So now, to you the people I present myself onto you. Please inform me of what I can do with that resume to improve a chance of getting an interview. After all, GETTING a INTERVIEW is the problem, not passing the interview. Thank you.

  1. since getting the interview isnt the problem, i would suggest you do a better job selling yourself as someone the employer would find honest, dependable, and hardworking.  your 'job bouncing' shouldnt be considered a bad thing, it simply means that you have a varied skill set which some employers might find attractive, or the fact that so many different jobs has meant that you've had to learn something new on each one.

  2. i like the 'old' resume b/c it had what you actually did at each job so that employers can see your skills. but its a little cluttered and could be condensed. also education should be at the top before work experience. you can also put in other skills like computer programs(word, excel, etc) and hobbies

good luck and always remember to follow up with the employer so that they dont forget about you
