College was just a big fat waste of time. I feel like I'm unhireable. I have no experience. What do I do?? My major was useless and there are no jobs in that field

  1. Consider working for a temp agency (eg, Kelly, Randstad). A lot of companies hire full-time employees through temp agencies. If you temp there and they like you, they will hire you. I got 2 good full-time jobs that way. You have to humble yourself because you might get a few jobs answering phones and stuffing envelopes before you get a good job, but if you're dependable and professional the temp agency will look out for you when companies are looking to hire.

  2. Lower your standards.  Regardless of your major, get into the workforce.  Preferably at a large company; entry level.  They have internal postings that are typically not advertised to the masses and if you do well at the job you were hired for, your chances of becoming promoted are greater.

Just get a job, regardless of how "low end" you think it may be.  Employers are looking for experience, beyond that degree.

    Good luck!

  3. well, it's probably one of 2 things:

    1.  you are applying for jobs that are beyond your abilities

    or

    2.  you have a problem with your resume or attitude.  Lets be realistic, is everyone who had your major also out of work?  probably not.  what are they doing that you aren't?  what do they have that you don't?  then go get it.  honestly if i knew you felt this way, i wouldn't hire you because you seem immature.  instead of looking towards yourself as the problem, you blame it on other things

how did you get out of college without an internship?  Take an unpaid internship to get some experience.  Bid on jobs that might not be quite what you think you're qualified for - maybe you can move up.
