I have PCOS and my Dr. has given my news of an abrnomal pap. It's happened before and my body seems to be getting worse (internally - cysts, menstrual pain, etc). I told her I was interested in a hyster & she was actually relieved to hear it b/c she said that w/ my condition, it's the best thing that I can do. I figure logically that well, with all these cysts and pain, who knows how bad I might be in a few years. We do not want any children, I'm over that hump already too so... pros and cons anyone? Thank you!

  1. see another docter, three are always other optins out there. Aa for the baby thing you are still young. I

  2. Pro: No more periods!

Con: Some women have emotional/psychological issues about their "womanhood" being stripped away...

If you are certain you are okay with not having your own/biological children, then I don't see much of a problem.

  3. The biggest cons are psychological.  Some women experience lower libido, and the inability to become pregnant can be frustrating.  Since you've already decided against conceiving a child, hysterectomy does sound like a good option for you.  Just make sure you research thoroughly, because it is major surgery.
