I'm due Nov 15th when should go out for FMLA?

Can I go to any hospitals once its that time that to go to labor?

I always hear people saying call your doctor am I suppose to have my doctors direct number? Cause I only have the one to the office at the OBgyn office..What kind of symtoms should I expect these next couple of weeks? I have no family and friends so once my water breaks and get contractions should I call 911? How long were you in labor?

  1. It all depends on your job and how your pregnancy is going for the FMLA. I plan on working until 39 weeks so we are going to fill it out soon for just in case I go early.

I'm not sure how other places work but I know I am delivering at the hospital my doctor is associated with...I thought everywhere was like that but maybe not. Most doctors have a specific hospital that they deliver at so that is where you should plan to deliver.  If it's an emergency and there is a different hospital that is closer than I am sure things would change accordingly.

There is usually an after-hours answering service/night time nurse for the doctor's main office that would page your doctor and have him/her call you back if need be. If there is no one to take you to the hospital than I guess the best option would be an ambulance...because you surely don't want to drive! LOL.

I was in labor for about 13 hours with my first, which isn't too bad I heard. I got an epidural early on at 3 cm which seemed to slow things down a little but everything still went fine.

I had a 3d/4d done at 28 weeks and it was great.  We got tons of printed pictures, a DVD and cd of all the pictures. Those ultrasounds are so amazing...you can really see what the baby looks like and it honestly helped us decide on the name. We had one tossed around for a long time and knew it was the right one once we saw her face.

I was 3 days late with my son, and am due just 5 days before his 6th birthday so I hope I go somewhat early so I don't ruin his big day lol. Congrats and good luck!

  2. All I have is a number to the office. If you call after hours they will have your doctor to call you back. If you start to go into labor just go to the hospital. Good Luck!

  3. good question lady, gosh the labor would be easy just deep breath every time if you feel pain it is normal. in your home you can give birth in the presence of one registerd maidwife . is that first one. Do not fell panic, if contractions come you are going to know if your baby want to come out.

  4. First baby is sometimes born 2 weeks early or late. It is pretty common in firstborns. 30 weeks, there is nothing to worry about just yet. Sure, you have to have your doctor's number aside from that of her office. Before he big day comes, you have to align your plans of which hospital you will be going to with your doctor. Walking is a good exercise that can help ease the upcoming childbirth. It is also a good idea to call 911 if ever the big day comes and there is totally no one there to assist you. However, you will be able to feel the contractions in distinct intervals before your water breaks so you will have ample time to call on your anybody close to you for assistance.

I had my baby 2 days early. She was a healthy baby. Goodluck.

  5. well if you haven't yet, but you will lose your mucus plug. It's just a big boogery thing that you don't even notice when you pee. Um contractions are are a very sharp pain in your lower back. Go to the doctors when your contractions are 4 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute long. I don't know if you know any thing about dilating but where i was you had to be dilated to a 4, and 50 % enfaced to admitted to the hospital. Get lots of sleep, and relaxing time to yourself. Because you'll for it later on. Not too sure about the 3d thing i wasn't lucky enough to have one of those. good luck and enjoy your bundle of love. Boys are so much fun!!!!

  6. normally your first never comes on time. they are normally over due. you can go to any hospital unless you want your doctor to deliver you then you have to go to the hospital that they work with. your doctor will let you know which one that is. you should have your doctors office number but if it is late at night then they normally have a service that is connected to their office number that informs them of your labor or the hospital will too. if your water breaks even if you do not have contractions then you should go to the hospital. if you do not have anyone to take you to the hospital or you cannot drive yourself then yes call the hospital for a an ambulance to pick you up or 911. your first child normally you are in labor for around 12 to 48 hours. it is a long process. you probably would want to get everything in order as in bags backed and baby stuff set up. these last weeks you will feel tiered but you should have a  easier time eating and breathing as the baby drops. good luck

  7. First, remember that any answers you read will be opinions - including mine.  So, when you go for your 3D, or on your next doctor's visit, ask the professionals.

FMLA is a job protection act that 'saves' your job for up to 12 weeks.  It will begin the first day you take off work for maternity.  There are forms you must fill out, and you have to get them from your human resource or payroll department.  The doctor has to complete and sign them.  You can look up FMLA at the link below.

Your water may or may not break, so don't wait for that to be the sign to tell you to go to the hospital.  Learn about what to expect from your doctor's office.  Labor kind of feels like menstrual cramps and gas - very uncomfortable, and you will know when it really happens.

Your doctor is affiliated with one or more hospitals, so ask him or her which hospital to go to.  Since labor is not necessarily an emergency, you can actually shop around - as long as they are permitted by your insurance company and your doctor has priviliges there.  You don't need to call 911 necessarily.  If you have no family or friends, you can take a taxi.

As far as how long people are in labor, you will get a wide variety of answers.  My first child took 36 hours, but not 36 hours of 'hard labor' - that was from start to finish.  The first several hours were just minor discomfort - no agony or pain, except for a back ache.  I guarantee your situation will be different.  Learn about labor and delivery, stay relaxed, and things will go much easier!  Good luck!!

  8. ummm i'm not sure how the whole birthing process happens in america. coz i always hear of people having their docs/ob/gyn direct number or something.

here in aus, the hosp you go to depends on where you live in relation to distance to the hospital and your risk category. or if you have specifically determined with your doc to be booked in at a certain hospital.

symptoms - tiredness, maybe cramping, more urine output, can't say too much else as i don't remember what i felt exactly anymore with my son.

  9. i cant answer all of your questions, im in austrailia and i have a feeling its a bit different. with my pregnancies, i tried to go to the same hospital that i had my antenatal appt with.

the symtoms that you may feel are, tired as, sick of being pregnant, huge, but still loving pregnancy!! you may also start thinking of things like, im not ready to have a child, i dont want to do this anymore, and things like that, but thats normal!! i had the same thoughts with my second child!!

once your contractions are about 10 minutes apart, then you can go to the hospital but also depends on how far away you are from the hospital but ring ahead so they know to expect you. trust me you dont want them not knowing your coming!!

with my second pregnancy, i didnt get contractions all day like my first. my waters just broke!! i didnt know it was going to happen!. so yes, if your waters break, call 911 straight away!! dont hesitate! once your waters break, thats it, the baby is coming!! it may take another couple of hours or so or it could happen within 10 min. but once the ambulance comes, you have no choice in hospital of course, they take you to the nearest one. luckily for me, i was just around the corner!!

my first preg, i was in labour for 17hrs and he came 2 hours after my waters broke. with my second preg, didnt have contractions until my waters broke and she came 1 hour later. so overall dear, eveyones labour time is different. my sister was 14hrs and i think he came 3 hours after her waters broke.

  10. First off congratulations! Most doctors encourage people to continue working right up until they go into labor. If your doctor gives you the okay and you feel comfortable doing so, by all means start your FMLA around the baby's due date. Most companies require a 30 day notice of when you are taking your FMLA and in what form ( some people take all 3 months off, some the required 6 weeks and then go back reduced duty, etc). Typically people go to the hospital their doctor is associated with so the doctor you are familiar with is the one delivering the baby. All you need is the office number to call. If you go into labor after hours, an operator or answering service will take the call and a message, then will call your doctor who will call you immediatly. At 30 weeks you might feel crampy as the ligaments in your stomach continue to stretch to make room for baby. You'll feel like your tummy is growing faster and may feel out of breath frequently as the uterus grows towards the lungs, compressing their space.  Hip discomfort is common as your hips start to expand in preparation.  If you think you are going into labor or your water broke, call the doctors office immediatly. Usually if your water has broken, the doctor will tell you to go to the hospital. If you think you are having contractions but your water hasn't broken, most doctors tell you to wait until contractions are five minutes apart. Most people go to the hospital earlier though. My labor lasted 12 hours, with my water breaking at 4 in the morning. I was at the hospital at 5 am after contacting my obgyn. At your next doctors visit, be sure to ask all this as different doctors have different protocols. 3D ultrasounds are amazing (although they can be a little weird as your seeing a little baby inside you 3d). Most importantly, learn all you can about labor and enjoy the last weeks of pregnancy!

  11. 1. You should fill out paperwork for FMLA as soon as you can, my boyfriend just got his paperwork today and so now we have to hurry and get them filled out by the Dr to turn them in.

    2. You call the Dr's line and the oncall nurse will page the Dr.  If there is more than 1 Dr in the office they will page the oncall Dr who will call you back.

    3. Now that you are 30 weeks you might notice BH contractions, feeling like you have to pee a lot and you may also have Morning sickness

    4. If your water breaks and/or you are getting regular contractions you call your Dr first who can tell you what to do next.  If they say you need to go to the hospital and you have no way to get there either call 911 or call for a cab.

    5.  With labor it is hard to say exactly how long because I was in preterm labor for 32 weeks then went into early labor then active labor.  The active labor with horrible contractions I couldn't talk through was less than 1 hr with my first and about 2 hrs with my second then they were born.

    6. The tech tried 3 times to get a good 3-D picture of my baby this time around but she didn't have any luck.  Last try was at 29 weeks

    7. I had my boys both at 36 weeks.
