I'm 34 and I'm a post-graduate in English Literature. My friend says that I can get a job in embassy .

Tell me if I learn German or French,can I get a job as a translater in embassy? Plz give answer.

Being selected as an embassy  translator generally requires native language level abilities and professionally recognized certifications, as well as specific professional requirements for the department which hires.  For example, below is a recent job announcement for a local hire at an embassy in Afghanistan:

    "Education: Completion of secondary (High) school is required.  Experience: Two years of experience providing written and simultaneous translation services from Dari/Pashto to English and vise versa is required.  Language: level 5 (professional translator ability) Speaking/Reading English and Dari and level 5(native fluency) speaking/reading Pashto is required.  Knowledge: in–depth knowledge of political, economic, cultural and technical issues in Afghanistan and knowledge of key institutions, especially media-related, operation in the local environment is required. Must have professional knowledge of written and simultaneous translation. Should have thorough knowledge of US society and its institutions, as well as the issues and concerns that affect US-Afghan bilateral relations.  Abilities and Skills: Superior English, Dari and Pashto written and speaking Skills is required. Must have the ability to provide translations that convey both nuanced meaning and tone of sensitive materials; employ proper idiomatic, phrasing, syntactical structure and use of words accurately reflecting the wording and meaning of the original materials; Type and use computers and emails. Should have strong interpersonal and cross cultural skills to enable communication and team work."

    There are other embassy positions available which also might allow you to draw upon your post-graduate work.  A lot depends on where you are and for which embassy you want to work.
