today i went off birth control pills and will stay off them for 6 months to reduce the risk of birth defects from the pill. What can i do during these 6 months to get prepared for pregnancy? It's my first time and i'm scared and dont know what to expect or do to prepare.

  1. Start taking your prenatal vitamins if you haven't already.  Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and get adequate exercise to prepare your body for pregnancy.  Also, the best advice I can give you for TTC is to stop trying.  That's what my husband and I told some friends of ours who had been TTC for over a year with little success.  Lo and behold, they got pregnant almost immediately.  Aside from the obvious requirements for conceiving, throw out the schedules and just let it happen naturally.

Sending lots of baby dust your way.  =)  Good luck!

  2. First, I don't think it is necessary to stay off the pills for 6 months.  My sister got pregnant the month after she stopped taking hers.  Second,  I had my son when I was 36, and my neighbor had twins at 40.  There is nothing to be scared of.  If you want to prepare your body the best possible way, tell your ob/gyn that you are going to be trying to get pregnant and they might suggest that you begin taking pre-natal vitamins now, instead of waiting until you get pregnant.

  3. I have a very important thing you need to do.  You need to take Folic Acid and Prenatal Vitamins.  It makes sense.  You want to have these 2 items in your system before you even get pregnant.  That way its in your body working already.

Make sure that you have to wait that long to be off the pill.  I didn't think it was that long.  I could be wrong about that.

Make sure you eat well and keep in shape.

All I can say, is that in 6 months.  HAVE FUN doing what I call, the mumbo.

  4. Start a prenatal vitamin, get healthy(er), start tracking your ovulation and basal body temp, and just have fun trying!

  5. just eat healthy exercise take prenatal vitamins try to relax and have plenty of s*x good luck

  6. Get in shape and eat right. Most important thing of all.

  7. exercise and eat right...both of you should get into the best shape possible before you get prego...

the better shape youre in, the more comfortable u will be during your pregnancy.  see yah!

  8. go to your doc and he'll give you folic acid tabs, eat healthy!

i was off the pill 3 years before i got pregnant!!! i'm 21 now almost 5 months with#1!!! good luck!!!

  9. What everyone else said (especially the folic acid part)... just be aware.

    1.  At your age your Dr. may consider you a "high risk" pregnancy, I know I was at 33.

    2.  An increase in age increases your odds of twins.  I know lots of people think it is just hereditary - it's not!  This is way so many famous people who are in the same age range have been having twins.

I am not trying to scare you, just be in the know!  Good luck!

  10. you can start taking pre natal vitamins now and just make sure you are eating a well rounded diet.

Enjoy these few months together. Good Luck!

  11. eat right. stay healthy. don't smoke, drink, do drugs. and just enjoy being prego when it happens
