Is this a sign that labour could be imminent? I was told at my midwife appointment last week that the baby was engaged and in position but it just felt normal until this morning when I woke up feeling even heavier, more swollen and achy around my back and hips and slightly in my groin and under the belly, it feels like the baby has dropped even further, although I didn't think that was possible LOL I'm due on the 13th (next saturday) and I'm just wondering if the complaints I'm feeling today mean that I may deliver a week early or not, this is my first baby so I don't know, but I was 10 days premature and my mum was a week early too, so we've all joked that my little fella may be early lol

  1. Hi, sounds to me like labour wont be to far away, but with a first baby it could last for days, the more relaxed that you are the faster the progress, if you still feel the same after a couple of days seek advice from your midwife, but believe me you will now when the baby is ready to say hello to the world. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and wish i was ready to have my baby.

Good luck and make the most of every special moment.

  2. He has dropped into position now so you will feel all kind of aches and pains. Right now your body is telling you to rest and nap for we have work to do soon.

  3. I am 38 weeks and I felt the same way this morning I have lots of pressure my self and my hips are killing me it could be possible watch for signs of diarrhea and bloody show if it gets worse call the midwife and congrats

  4. I had backache for about a week before my son arrived so I wouldn't read too much into it just yet.  Baby has definitely 'dropped', which accounts for the heavy feeling but I wouldnt go so far as to say you're in early labour.  Not unless (afterwards) you want to say your labour lasted for several days!  Wait until your contractions kick in - then you can say you're in labour.

  5. I think the pressure and the backache is just a sign that he has dropped. I've never heard of backache being a sign of impending labor, but that doesn't mean it isn't a sign.

Honestly, I'm pregnant with baby #3 and I don't pay attention to any of the "signs" that mean labor. Nothing is truely an indicator. My sister went 4 weeks overdue with her son this past month, and she was having "signs" for weeks and he never came.

Good luck though, you don't have much longer to go before you are holding your little man, and who knows..You may just deliver him a week early since early babies seem to run in your family :)

  6. i had a baby just 12 week ago now and those simptoms sound very familiar. mine was an induced labour but i had all the simptoms you are describing. althought it is possible that your baby has dropped a little further getting ready for his big entrance. if you are really worried or the discomfort gets any worse then dont hesitate to call the labour ward and they will either tell you to come in or put your mind at ease. dont forget though that if its a routine birth then they ask that you stay at home until the contractions are about 2 to 3 in 5 minutes.

good luck and take care x x x

  9. woohoo labor here you come!
