my question is... my son thinks it's rude when people comment on how much alike we look. I try to explain it's not rude, it's just that he doesn't like it. How do I explain that to him and make him understand people aren't trying to be mean. And, don't think he looks feminine. He doesn't. He is quite handsome, tall, with blonde curly hair and blue eyes. The chicks dig him. He just has the same qualities as me, like the blond hair, cheek bones, nose, eyes, etc...

  1. Put yourself in his shoes.

  2. Tell him he should be grateful to get such good genes!  And ask him, would you rather be really ugly, lol?

  3. nothing unusual for a 19 year old.  He is wanting to find out who he is and sometimes it means wanting to "separate" themselves from parents, and when someone says he looks like his mom, it can affect him differently. I have a 19 year old that is trying to find himself right now, to the point that he moved out. Don't take it too personally.

  4. Well, he's 19 for starters. He wants to believe he looks so unique and mysterious. LOL

He will grow out of it. There isn't so much you can do. you can't make people not comment. I look exactly like my dad, only in a very girly way. That never bothered me to get compliments on that as I know my dad is handsome. Your son just hasn't separated the idea that you can look alike (nose, shape of face, lips, eyes, skin complexion etc) without looking like a girl. Point out the qualities you share that are obvious and then the ones that are obviously not alike. say, "I know we have the same nose, but gosh you're like a billion times taller than me- we don't look alike as much as they think!" LOL

  5. LMAO, well I don't think you'll ever get passed that one, he's a guy after all, what guy want's to be told they look the same as a woman? lol. especially at 19yrs old, he may one day realise what they mean but right now I wouldn't worry about it, but ask friends etc not to make the comments around him in future.
