The smells are very subtle yet very poignant to the point that they prevent me to breathe deeply. Anyone knows anything about that ?

  1. You either have a much keener sense of smell or you have a synaptic misfire, causing you to smell something that may have been present under similar conditions.

I smell burning hair at work all the time. It's either the computer wires, my imagination or my coworker's nasty hair.

  2. You might be having olfactory (smell-related) hallucinations. I don't remember what sorts of underlying things could cause this symptom, but what you're experiencing could be caused by some underlying brain issue. I'd suggest talking to a neurologist at the nearest medical or research facility. (And, if they dismiss your experience as trivial and don't provide any diagnosis or treatment, please please talk to another neuroscientist. There's no reason why anyone should call olfactory hallucinations trivial, so it might be worth your while to find someone who will give you substantial consideration and treatment.)

  3. .Check with a Doctor.  You may have an infection in your nose cavities or a problem with your teeth.  The nose infection is a very good possibility.  Easy to fix with meds

  4. You might have acid reflux..

I'm 15 and like 3 times a month i get this nasty taste in my mouth(it taste like puke but worse) (my breath will smell like puke too) and i smell this nasty smell but nobody else smells it...to me it smells like my dog threw up in my nose, cause no matter what i do i smell it..i hate that smell soooo bad when i get it i start crying....My doc gave me a pill for it and it really helped! It's ummmmmm...give me a sec to think...

    prevacid!!!!

  5. This may be a pre-menopausal symptom.  The change in hormone levels can affect your sense of smell, including the sensitivity and intensity of the smells; very similar to what happens when you're pregnant. If it is truly unbearable to the point that it affects your work habits and daily activities, I would consult your doctor as they may be able to work with you on bettering your hormones.
