  1. I've never met an overweight vegetarian.  I guess you're the exception to the rule.  To answer your question, diet and exercise.  Actually, you don't really need to diet if you exercise enough.  And don't worry about gaining much muscle mass.  You're female.  Woman don't gain muscles the way men do.  For you to gain much muscle mass, you'd have to take steroids or work out a lot with heavy weights.  You won't bulk up like a man just from normal exercise.

  2. I wouldn't aspire to be model thin because, as you said, you don't want to look unhealthy. However, if you want to get long and lean try yoga and pilates. I have a workout tape that does a combo of both and its awesome. I hate working out so that says a lot!

  3. Im 5'1 and 85 lbs and vegan. I think its not really about the diet, its all in the calories. We store what we dont burn or expend. I think you need to avoid those "junk" vegetarian food. There's a lot right??? Chips, crackers, sodas, candies, alot are vegetarian.. Are you eating alot of junk food lately, if so, try to eliminate some. Replace them with healthy food. Beans, legumes, nuts, rice, whole wheat flour, soy products, fruits and veggies.

Also, about the exercise thing. Sweetie, its really hard for a "woman" to gain alot of muscles. Its nearly impossible. we dont have enough testosterone that makes us gain lots of muscles even if we body build everyday. Its pretty impossible. Cardio is a good toning program coz it tones every part of your body. Resistance bands is good too to have a bit of muscles on your shoulders and thighs so that youll have that "lean" a bit skinny look.

  4. diet and exercise, its that simple, just be consistant.

    steve:she isnt overweight, bmi wise

  5. cut out full fat dairy products & most egg-y things. use egg whites instead.

eat less junk food, as well. eat fruit instead. or try carrots or soy chips instead of the regular kind.

beans, tofu, & vegetables make for great meals. steam, bake, stir fry, or grill stuff. make sure to only use a small amount of oil.

make sure you only eat whole grain carbs. don't eat white rice or pasta.

if you want to burn fat do cardio. ride a bike, roller blade, jog, dance, use the elliptical, swim, whatever you like. a little bit of resistance training won't bulk you up so do push ups, squats, lunges, and crunches three times a week.

  6. yeah. i kinda faced the problem except not as serious as you.

    - trying steaming the veggies.

    - eat salads.

    - i have a recipe for i really good weight loss tea that my mom lost 20 lbs with. so if you want it let me know.

    - swim. everyday. not waddling. or paddling. do laps. especially the front crawl. you'll get leaner without muscle [ i know i did ]

    - soups. a very healthy diet.

    - healthiest of all. try going a week on just beans for lunch dinner. black beans, kidney beans, mung beans, chick peas, lentils, etc. indian food incorporates a lot of them so you might try indian soups. do not try the fried indian food. way too oily.

    - if you want more, im sure i can brainstorm.

  7. Eating a low fat high fiber vegan diet will help. Keeping track of fat  and calories in a journal is helpful.Doing something you like that involves cardio for at least a half hour to an hour  everyday will help. For example running, jogging, or walking. You can do these exercises outside or on a treadmill.

You can steam veggies  or make a stir fry with a little oil.

Ignore what models look like. Most have eating disorders and do drugs so they won't get fired. Very unhealthy.

  8. Kinda hard to get that "lean, model look, when you're petite and most models are usually a lot taller...

Anyway, my wife is even shorter at 4'10 but she is lean without being muscular.. she is not a vegetaraian though

Nothing special about what she eats.. she just doesn;t eat a lot of it.. Agree with other suggestions that steaming veggies is good but the taste may be a bit bland.. you can "herb it up" or spice it up and add a lot of variety to what you eat.. that will at least help get over the feeling of eating boring repetitive food..

She does  some aerobics and yoga alternatively five days a week.. some weight training but with light weights for body sculpting etc.. If money is not a problem, a personal trainer is also advisable.. they can usually prescribe a diet and exercise regimen tailored for your personal needs

  9. Burn more calories than you consume, that is the only way to lose weight.

You can increase resting metabolic rate by lifting heavy weights 2-3 times a week and you can also burn extra calories by exercising.
