Question:

I'm 5'11, 180 pounds, never played football, wants to play wide receiver in D3 college. Any tips? can i do it?

I run a 4.5 40 yard dash, don't lift much, but in good shape. Still have one year until try-outs so i can work until then. Plan on getting speed down to 4.5 by time tryouts start. Will never playing before be a major factor. Please hlp.

  1. A 4.5 is great but they might not try you out as wideout if you have no experince. Or at least in your first season, any college will let you play with your speed. If I were you I would get a couple of my buddies and hold a couple of little games to practice your route running. Goodluck


  2. Ummmmmm...

    yeah, not playing before is going to be a factor.  You are not going to learn how to run routes quickly.  You are not going to learn how to block quickly.  Catching a pass over the middle is something that has to be done to be believed.  You can't learn it without doing it for years.

    You might want to consider playing quarterback.  You will have as much chance doing that.
