I'm a good shooter from the 3 point line but not good from the inside, and my lay ups could use some work.

I'm working on my ballhandling skills, and I'm getting good at it.

And I nearly practice an hour a day almost everyday.

  1. Height means nothing.  Playing well is all that matters.  I'm only about 4'10, in the eighth grade, and I was on my schools basketball team this past year.  Its talent that counts, not height.  Just keep practicing and you'll do fine.

  2. As long as you keep practicing and keep doing your best, it doesn't matter what your height is. I know someone that's a little shorter you are. Last year, he was our team's point guard. He was also our leading rebounder. As long as you've got heart and skill, height is the last thing on anybody's mind.

  3. surely height means nothing my friend its all in your heart :)

  4. at 5'3", should not be a problem. isn't that pretty tall for a middle school kid?

just work on them layups. you'll get no respect if you miss those, and you can forget about starting.

  5. height means nothing- look at Mugsey Bogues, he was sweet.

  6. I'm 5'8 and I can give you tips how to be the best of the bests

practice everyday more than a hour (Kobe practiced all day when he was a kid)

wear leather gloves and bounce the ball for 30 mins with only one hand then do another 30 mins with another hand (Jason Williams did that)

and do 100 lay-ups everyday to improve it (I do that too)

I should know this because I did this and the coach offered me a power-foward job for my high school basketball team

    good luck!

  7. RIGHT NOW YOU WOULD BE A SMALL FOWARD DUE TO LACK OF HANDLE &MID RANGE BUT IF YOU CONTINUE TO PRACTICE YOU CAN PLAY ANY WHERE

  8. no... well unless you're 5'3 and wanna play foward or center dat aint gon happen...but if you juz wanna be a guard it doesnt matter as long as you kno how 2 shoot u gudd

  9. No because in Middle school the height really means nothing for the people that play point and wing but the post sometimes matter just know how to shoot

  10. 5'3 is kind of short for middle school. We have some 5'8-6'0 middle school students. Sure you can be a guard.

  11. Cool, I just got out of the 8th grade as my teams starting shooting guard!

What you have to do is improve your layups, don't fall in love with that 3 point shot, learn to drive to the basket. Also you'll need ball handling skills, if you are getting better then that's great. You will also need to be able to throw a good pass, if not they'll get intercepted..just continue to work on your game!
