I know there is a limit on what can be taken during the 1st trimester. I had a family physician tell me to stop taking all my meds until I get into to see my OB and Claritin was one of them. Now I have a horrible sinus headache and the Tylenol I took is NOT helping and I'm in a wedding tomorrow!! Any other moms out there know what allergy and sinus meds are ok to take during the 1st trimester? I'm tired of calling the doc's office and they won't see me until I'm 8 weeks! Thanks! :)

  1. Most of the over-the counter nasal sprays are ok during pregnancy. Just double check with the pharmacist.

  2. There's a nasal spray you can get from the pharmacy but I can't remember what it's called. They'll know though, but you have to tell them you're pregnant. If you take that along with panadol it at least helps and it's better than nothing

  3. normal paracetamal are ok if you take them in moderation. good luck hope they go away soon.

  4. Seriously, I just went through the same thing.. and my OB assured me that Zyrtec and Claritin were absolutely fine to take while pregnant. But if you are still skeptical, you can always use this home remedy that should provide relif at least for a couple of hours.  Get some VICS Vapor Rub and place it on the outside(sides) of your nose, and a small amount at the opening of each nostril.  Get a washcloth as hot as you can possibly stand it and hold it over your nose. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat this maybe 4 or 5 times, and it should open up your sinus passages and reduce some of the swelling, hence, easing the headache. It always works for me.. Good luck.

  5. Darn.

I don't know what to tell you. I was just asking my husband what I was allowed to take. (since my head is doo doo these days.)

I just recently gave birth to my son 6 months ago.  The only thing I honestly remember being allowed to take was Tylenol.

Did you take the one for sinus?  I remember the regular tylenol didn't work for me, but the sinus did.

  6. this exact same thing happened to me.. I boiled the kettle put some eaucalyptus oil in and sat over it and just blew my nose all night. I know it sounds gross but it will break it up and then you just have to get it out.. I wouldnt use anything over the counter as what theyre suposed to do is dry you out and it doesnt just work for your head.. depends how bad you are but.. Have an early night and a great time at the wedding..

  7. I have the list of medicines from my doctor right in front of me. Under "Cough, chest and nasal congestion/ cold preparations" there is: Rubitussin or DM, Sudafed, Chloraseptic spray, ocean nasal spray, Tylenol Cold and sinus, Actifed, Halls lozenges, Claritin, and Benadryl. I'm almost 8 wks and this is what the doctor gave me my first appointment.
