I'm 5ft4, can I use junior skis?

I'm 5ft4, about 70/80kg, just bought a pair of junior skis on ebay - 160cm. I'm not a beginner entirely, but not amazing (I can parallel turn with ease, have done a little off piste, and can handle blacks at villard de lans in the alps, although not with much style!). I read that the longer junior skis overlap with the lower adult range, but are slightly more forgiving, which might be good for me as i bought race skis! The skis I've got are elan race rcg 2006-2007, I don't think i'll be able to cope with the adult ones but wondering if the kids ones will be 1) ok and 2) safe!

Thanks!

  1. no, you need an adult ski.

be sure to hit a ski shop to really fit you well for your skis

  2. I'm not familiar with this model, but in general a junior ski is designed for a lighter weight person, upper weight limit is about 60 kg. I've had students use a junior ski that would basically decamber when they applied pressure to it, hence they are unable to hold an edge properly and have no stability when skiing.  You say you have a junior race ski which may suit you fine, a 160 cm ski depending on your ability, would give you a solid feel to the ski and should be safe if the bindings will adjust to your weight range.

  3. I think you should look into an adult ski.  The junior skis are set up for certain weights as they are made for kids.  There are adult skis that should be short enough for you if that's what you were looking for.  Your best bet would be to go to the local ski shop and talk to them about it.
