I'm Buying a parakeet to train and make a friendly tame bird should i buy 1 or 2?

Question

I'm buying a parakeet and I have mixed answers on whether to get one or two. I thought about getting 2 because they are social birds and would keep each other company while i wasn't around however i also want this/these birds to be friendly and tame with me. i want them to be able to come out and sit on my finger/shoulder/ on my desk that type of thing. Any advice? I work from home so spending time with them wont be an issue. They'll be within eye sight for more than 10 hrs a day. Thanks!

get 2, the social interaction could make the birds more sociable and tame, happy to play around.

i recommend buying two, because otherwise the one will get lonely. that may seem like a joke, but its true. Parakeets are very social animals who enjoy numbers. my friend had one parakeet but it wouldn't eat because it was lonely. it had an amazing and healthy life once my friend bought it a friend.

you can always go to your local pet store and ask questions. I'm sure they would be willing to help you with all your questions. (if not, i suggest you start going to a different pet store.)

If you want to train the bird and have it for a companion, you should only have "One"  it will turn to you for ALL it's attention and love.  If you have "Two"  it won't need your company.   Parakeets are NOT mean, I have hand raised a LOT of them and had many for pets.  They are one of the most vocal birds.  It's very hard to teach them to talk, but if you can succeeed, their vocabulary is just amazing.  They love to play fly and catch.  They are very intelligent and very fun, but as I said, if you want a companion for yourself, you must only have ONE....

Only buy one, birds bond with just one and you want it to be you.  If you buy 2 the bird will bond with they other birds and it will be very, very hard to train,

if u really want ot train it u should buy one so its less distraction fo it but u hav to hav a lot of extra time with u, like u said they r social birds, otherwise they get grumpy, so if u noe ur not gonna hav lots of time to b with it i suggest getting a friend fo it

Since you have time to spend with the bird, it's much better to only get one. It will have you for companionship so it won't need another bird, and if you were to get two, they would bond to one another and probably not want anything to do with you--which will make it impossible to train them, because your birds won't learn tricks and they won't speak if they don't want to please you.

Parakeets are mean. And they kill eachother. Just get one. If you get two they will screech at eachother all night and day and you wont get any peace.

one, because if you buy two they will relate to eachother and not you. well they will be tame but no were near as tame and freindly as if its just one. because one will relate to you like family. birds only relate alot to one person. so one and it will love you

I think you should get two. They like company unless they are like the crazy one I had that pecked the other birds in its cage to death.  My parents let it go saying it was crazy! LOL
