I'm Canadian and buying a puppy in the United States. How does it work when I bring it back across the border?

  1. See sites below for info on bringing pets.  3rd site should help with customs...may need to call the number given there as no info is mentioned about paying duty.

  3. The p**p can't cross the border(toxic waste).

  4. If the dog is a pet, there is no duty. If you're only bringing one dog, there is no reason to consider it anything but a pet. If you bring 20 dogs, they might wonder if the dogs are part of a business. The second link in the first post tells what you need for rabies vaccination and ID for the dog.

  5. There would be no duty or customs fees. You would however need to have the dog checked out by a vet and obtain a health certificate (for Canada) for it from the vet, certifying that that animal is healthy.

    There is no quarantine period coming from the US, but you do need to have the health certificate, as well as all its vaccinations.
