I'm Dutch citizen. will my child get British passport if I just go to UK and give birth.?

Thanks for all of you who gave nice responses regarding my concern. But to make any decision, I want to know some further things.

Basiclly I am Dutch passoport holder by birth but I'm brought up in Pakistan since I was child. now I'm married in Pakistan to a Pakistani citizen studying in UK. He is on student visa there.

my first question is:

1.If I move to UK with him, Is there any way for him to get British Citizenship through my Dutch nationalty without my working in Uk? While he has a good job there at the moment along with many job offers from many companies?

2. If I just go UK to give birth, will my child get British Passort straight away along with Dutch passport ( So called Dual citizenship) or atleast British Passport only?

Don't know about your baby but there is no way your husband is entitled to British passport! You are not British - how exactly do you think he is entitled to UK passport? What is wrong with your child having Dutch nationality anyway?

1. no, he can only obtain the citizenship by himself. Hij moet aan de eisen van VK voldoen. (jij kan niks doen)

2. een kind kan een nationaliteit verkrijgen door

- de ouders: de nationaliteit van de ouders

- de geboorteplek: de nationaliteit van waar het geboren en opgegroeid is (net zoals bij jou).

De eerste is de regel en als dat niet lukt dan gaat de tweede in werking. Een duale burgerschap is mogelijk, maar je moet kijken of Nederland dat ook toestaat en VK (als beide landen dat doen dan kun je een duale krijgen = maar het is wel duur).

Ik moet zeggen, het is niet één twee drie. Je man kan alleen de nationaliteit krijgen door zichzelf en het kind kan via jou de Nederlandse krijgen. Als je toch de Britse wilt dan moet je even op de ambassade site gaan surfen.

Just have the baby in the Netherlands. That's a good passport to have, too.
