I'm Getting A Tortoise, Any Advice?

Question

Hey I'm getting a pet tortoise soon. I dont know what type to get though. I want a young one that will live a long time. I've got about £200 for the tortoise and anything else like food and its home I can take care of but I just need somewhere to start. So can anyone tell me what type to get?

A box tortoise is small and easier to keep DO NOT get a snapping one they are not fun pets!

iv got tortoise too and i would say dont go for something too small, too big or too fancy. and just one more peice of advice. NEVER PUT THE TORTOISE OUT IN THE SUN FOR TOO LONG!!! It causes death.

some of the equiment you will need for ne tortiose is

a UVA/UVB bulb and reflector dome

calcium powder or liquid drops

and depnding on where it will be kept a heat lamp

i have a russian tortiose she is very social with people and my cats she loves attention! since i live in a warm house  i do not use a heat lamp she has the run of the house.

Never ever leave a tortiose alone with a dog as dogs chew its their nature. i would not recommend having a water dish as it jus gets dumped out  just keep a plastic container big enough to fill the bottom with water and then put the tortiose in that for about an hour a day. they will usually drink and also go to the bathroom while in the water just dont allow the tortiose to become completly submerged as it will drown.
