I'm Homeschooled?

and I like it and all but I miss my photography class and art 2 class. I feel like I get held back from my artistic side because I saw a picture my friend drew in that class(art 2) AND I wanted to do something like that. Also I saw another assignment from photography that looked fun and its making me depressed. I hate how I had no choice in if I should be home schooled or not. I like doing artsy things, because I want to be a fashion designer...what should I do?

  1. I'm home schooled and I can still go to this place once a week and take photography and art 2 (and a bunch of other stuff).try to find something like that in your area.

  2. Voice your concerns to your parents.  They probably have strong feelings about your education, and that's why they decided to homeschool you.  Maybe you could reach a compromise where you tour a local school to see if you want to go there, or continue with homeschooling but take an art class at a local college or high school.

    Good luck!

  3. You should take an art class at a community center, with a private teacher or at a community college. My daughter is homeschooled and she often enjoys art camps, open studio type classes and touring local galleries. She also takes time each week to sketch, paint or sculpt. We study art history. We look at different types of art and discuss what we like and what we don't. Art is definitely something you learn best by doing.  You should learn photo shop, intern with a professional photographer or a local artist and check out books on art from the library.

  4. Find out if your local girls club/boys club offer art classes. You can also check your local community pages  in the newspaper for any art classes offered. Good luck!

  5. Look at the local community college or community center, they normally have art or photography classes and the ones at the college will even transfer later on when you have finished high school and are studying at the university. Good luck!

  6. Have you looked into going part time?  I was homeschooled, and I went to the high school only for choir.  I also have siblings who went to the high school for one or two classes.  Not every state allows this, but it worked for us in Utah.

  7. I also want to be a fashion designer, but unlike you I am not homeschooles. High school is h**l, you r lucky to be homeschooled, my guess is that there is less pressure and you can go at whatever pace you feel comfotable working at! But if it really bothers you than let ur parents know how u feel, and whatever they choose im sure its in your best interest

  8. keep drawing but stay homeschool i am home school to VCS is the name of my school how both urs all u have to do is buy some art paper in draw

  9. i also want to be a fashion designer and i'm homeschooled too,but i talked to my parents and told them about my concerns.

  10. I don't know what age you are, but there are tons of homeschool curriculums that include art and photography units. If you are homeschooled you are supposed to be taught fine arts. This can include music study or lessons, art study or lessons (which would include your photography.) You may have to do the research yourself to find cirriculum to present to your parents. If you are 8th grade or below, you can find really good art books that teach drawing and such from Christian Light. It is pretty cheap - around $8. I think it would provide lessons for one semester. Sometimes there are co-ops you can join that has special classes like this. I wish I could give you a specific book on photography. I know of a company that sells homeschool items like this at the cheapest prices I've seen. They are called Rainbow Resource Center, Inc. There website is www.rainbowresource.com and they actually have a number that your parents can call to talk to someone who knows all the products and can give some guidance to what would work best for you. The number is 309-695-3200. Or they can email them at the website if you don't have free long-distance.

I hope this helps. The whole reason to be homeschooled is to give you a better education where you can bloom on the talents God has given you. There are plenty of curriculum that will enhance your creative side. Just ask around to see which ones will fit you best.

  11. You need to find a homeschooling co-op in your area.  We have several available, and the one we participate in, with 135 students from nursery-12th grade, has BOTH Photography and Art.  For high school we also have drama, journalism, public speaking, guitar, math classes, on and on.

Also, your local arts district should have classes, and possibly your parks and recreation division.  Our YMCA has art lessons and a studio, including a pottery wheel.  You don't have to be a member to take classes - you just pay a bit more for them.

You can do homeschool curriculum for art.  Here are just a few:

    http://www.artisticpursuits.com/

    http://www.teachartathome.com/

    http://www.meetthemasters.com/homeschool...

    http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/mate...

    http://www.everydayart.com/curriculum.ht...

    http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/B...

    On and on and on.

Why not go out and just "do" photography.  You can read all sorts of books from the library about it.  You could even set up your own dark room in your home.

If you want to be a fashion designer, then you really must do some art now.  Have you even asked your parents to support you on this, or to purchase curriculum for you, or to find you a tutor or mentor???  That is your first place to start, rather than being in a self-pity party.

  12. Artists tend to be creative.  Why not do your own art projects?  Do you need a teacher to tell you what to do in order to get it done?  Probably not.  You saw some ideas that inspired you-do them.  If you need help, research it online or ask your friends.

Some districts/states allow homeschooled students to participate in extracurricular activities.  Inquire about that.  You might be able to take a class or two at your local high school and still receive the rest of your education at home.  A better option would be to enroll in a community art and/or photography class or enroll in one at a local technical college.  Check materials out of your local library.  Inquire about a private art tutor (a student at a local art school, perhaps, or another artist who would mentor you).

Also inquire from your parents if you can take a course, either in person at your local college or through a correspondance program, in fashion design.  You could do it simultaneously to being homeschooled as an elective.

Your parents made a decision for you based on what they thought was right.  Most children do not have a say in where they are educated, what they eat for supper, if they go to the doctor or not-your parents make decisions for you.  You might not always like them, but know that they are always made because your parents love and care about you and want the best.  Homeschooling does not mean you need to miss out on anything, you just have to find another route.

    I wish you the best!

  13. tell your parents. there are tons of great art classes you can take...also, you can google art and photography curriculums and see what you can find to study at home, too. you have lots of options, don't despair sweetheart.

  14. I'm homeschooled too and look at it this way, your friends have to get up early in the morning while you can stay up all night and sleep all day!  And if you are that concerned draw your own drawing like your friends.

  15. you know that most school's will let you take classes like that and sports so maybe you should talk to your school

  16. Ask your parents for help in finding an art class. There are probably things where you live. If there is enough interest in the homeschool groups where you live, you might even be able to get a class set up just for a bunch of you.

Also, what's stopping you from doing art? Taking pictures? Taking books out from the library on drawing and photography? You can still do them while homeschooled. Instead of sitting there, looking at your friend's work, why not ask her how she did it and do some with her? There are lots of ways to keep your artsy side going!

  17. If you want to go to school, then you should tell your parents. You are missing out on a lot of good friendships.

  18. Is there any possibility of you taking art classes at a local art museum, or community center,  community arts center?  How about at the local high school at night?  How about asking your parents if you could contact a favorite art teacher and ask them to mentor you for a fee.  If there is a university in your area, sometimes their grad students offer specialty art classes on the weekends, or you might even advertise on the arts building bulletin board at the university to be tutored or mentored at your home.

How about having your parents talk to a local photographer and asking if you can volunteer at their studio and learn techniques while you clean the coffee pots.  See how to run a professional art business while you dust and pick up equipment and answer the phone.  Offer to do the work for free just for the opportunity.

My daughter is an artist and just finished her Fine Arts degree, but she would be the first one to tell you that you cannot find your voice in your art unless you have the opportunity to choose your own projects, explore techniques, make mistakes without worrying about deadlines.  Investigating new projects and looking for help and ideas and guidance when YOU feel it is necessary.    She loves the fact that she stuck with the "college thing" and got the degree, but bottom line is most artists are not employed by others.  They work on their own and sell their work themselves.  There is NO ONE to impress with a degree......so she is now LOVING every minute of being out of school and able to do the projects for sale and gallery shows that she has had to put off because of "getting assignments done."

Change your viewpoint.  Don't look at what you are missing.....look at the freedom you now have to excel, explore and find your own voice.   If your artistic friends come over with a technique you want to learn...................have them show you how...........then run with it.  Change it.   Modify it.  Make it your own.   You are free to be the artist that you were meant to be.  Get your regular school work done as well and as fast as you can and then start designing now!!!!!!  Don't wait.   You have no one to hold you back now but YOU!

  19. Do you have a digital camera?

If you do, there is no reason you cannot continue learning photography on your own.

Do you have art supplies? If you do not, ask your parents if they would help you get some supplies and study materials.

There is no reason you cannot continue artsy stuff as a homeschooler and even go way beyond what is done at your previous school.

  20. you can do art on your free time no one is stopping you
