  1. YWCA food shelters church park activities hospice volunteer

  2. Volunteer at the Board of the Handicapped, any womens shelter...but one that specializes in Domestic Violence, the Public Defenders Office, Victim Services in the Courts, Family Court, United Way, etc

  3. It depends on what you would like to do with your social science degree.  It's a very open-ended speciality and you can technically enter any field you choose in the future.  The default is that you'd be a social worker, but honestly what does that mean?  The fact of hte matter is that you can become a school counselor, an HR generalist, a teacher, a special ed teacher, or an editor.  Whatever the case, you should aim your volunteer and extracurricular work along that path.

Personally, my philosophy throughout University (I just finished last year), was to committ to extracurriculars that I was interested in, and then fit my academic life around that.  In my case, it was doing arts administrative work while pursuing a degree in psychology.  I work in financial services now (hahaha... it pays the pills... and how!), but I'm re-entering the arts field by aiming at a consultancy that specializes in museums and cultural institutions.
