Why alot of African Americans I come across hate republicans? Abe Lincoln was a republican president-and he helped abolish slavery..This question is stemming from a comment I heard someone make about how they were voting for Obama because he's black..Also, why do SOME (not all) African Americans blame White people's ancestors for slavery when in reality-it was THEIR PEOPLE who sold them to the white people in the first place...Again-I'm not trying to start a racist fight-I just want some legitamte point's of view from MATURE, OPEN MINDED people..Thanks.

  1. Kind of racy question. I'm white but i'll lay down my wisdom. One section of Democrats in the pre civil rights days were racist then once the other section of democrats approved of civil rights  the racist ones moved to the republican party. Republicans are viewed as rich white people who don't support programs to help the poor. Which in most respects are true.  Now I'm not saying black people are mad that republicans don't support welfare because I support government aid. What I am saying is that Republicans usually are a "fend for yourself, the strongest survive" and don't like helping out families that didn't make the best choices or etc and need a helping hand.  I wish everyone were Democrats to be honest

  2. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is a Republican. Abolitionist Frederick Douglas was a Republican who married a white woman and built a large house on a hill in the late 1800s.  Former President Abe Lincoln was a Republican President and Henry Lloyd Garrison along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton where Republican or at least affiliated with the Grand Old Party; champions of the womans suffragist movement and abolition of slavery. Surely you can see the range of political interests with the Republican party at the time.  The sheer diversity of opinions were argued and debated out loud.  What is diverse about Senator Olympia Snowe, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Vice President d**k Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Senator Orrin Hatch, President George W. Bush, Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito, former Senator Bob Dole, Senator Trent Lott, Senator Lindsey Graham and Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain?  How are their political views diverse on the issue of race? What is the Republican Party's action step to improve race relations, like their commitment in the 19th Century? Not every black person falls within the narrow confines of silence or political correctness.  So where do we fit within the Republican Party in the 21st Century? Even Political Commentator Armstrong Williams, a noted black conservative Republican scratches his bald head wondering where in the Republican Party is their a stake for black people and not a symbol or a token?  He openly wrestles voting for Obma not because he is black, but because his eligibility as a candidate makes sense to a people who are diverse and would like to see a President that comes from their struggle and looks at a world view, first, representative of all races second.  Is this coincedence, after nearly 3 centuries, not 1 black person has earned or been qualified to lead the Republican Party?

To your next point, Africans sold defeated African tribes into slavery on the African continent, long before white tradesmen came to shore. What white slave traders promoted was the removal of the slaves from the continent and subjugated us to a broken and disparate future on another continent. No hope of ever knowing who are families once were until 2008. That's like if your family was lifted from one end of the world to another end of the world; this exacerbates whatever wrong has been inflicted and to add insult to injury you and your forebears have the social status of beasts.

I am the great grandson of a slave who was treated like a beast. That was my great grandmother Ruby Bell Mears.  My grandmother was born in 1899 and passed in 1981, my mother was born in 1937 and father born in 1938 in the south and his last name was "boy." I was born in 1964 by the grace of God and a lot of well intentioned people I live to inform you, that those dates for many of us where not that far in the past. We have pictures and drawings of our families, much like the Jews it still hurts to be told shut up, get over it, that was a longtime ago.  Look at the social norms on the dates just raised and you may be able to better understand that the people who were mistreated are 1-2 generations away and others still living.  Through the genius of science, we are now finding out that we have white and black family trees, so the legacy of the U.S. Peculiar Institution that you raise now informs us that perhpas your famliy where slaves also. Isn't that something? Small world.

  3. Many AAs do not like the Republican agenda as it has never favored anything for their communities whereas the Democrats merely lie to them and make promises they will never keep. Why? Because one person cannot make that decision alone, they have to rally support. With the partisan divide, they are always at odds and nobody wins.

  4. I understand your question. I think anyone who votes a candidate based SOLELY on color or gender is un educated.
