  1. I'm with OSU.  If you don't know the game, why are you in a tournament?  Aren't you afraid that those who always golf will see you don't really know what you're doing?  My husband plays golf regularly.  He was asked to take part in a tournament given by his company.  Now he has been a golfer for many, many years.  He declined because he felt there were others more qualified.  I would think about it if I were you.  Get some lessons first, and know the terms as well.  The terms are very important.  I still don't know some of them when my husband says, "Hey, I got a birdie today."  or "I got a par today".  All I really know is hole in one.  If you decide to play, I wish all the best of luck.  I mean that.

  2. The fact that you don't know anything about golf shouldn't keep you out of a tournament that isn't Pro.  If it's for your company or charity or anything like that, it's all about the experience and fun anyway.  All I have to say is I hope you're playing Best Ball.

I'm not great at golf by any stretch.  I've only broken 100 once, which is actually pretty good for a girl who has only played for about 3 years.

The most important thing you need to remember is DON'T HOLD UP THE OTHER PLAYERS.  I think you're feeling more stressed about it than you should really.  Whoever you get grouped with, let them know as soon as you can that you're very new to the game.  They'll tell you exactly what they expect!  Trust me on that one!

    Good luck and have fun!

  3. everyone has to start somewhere. hopefully it is a best ball tournament. So just swing away and pay a little attention and you'll catch on. let your partners keep up with scoring while you drink beer.

  4. if you don't know that much about golf, why enter a golf tournament? was this an ego thing? playing in a tournament is not the best place to learn about golf.

  5. If your in a company event just follow along with your group.

Par is the key. It's the average score you should get on a hole. Par 3=3 strokes or swings.

Birdie is one less then par.

    Bogey is one over.

You should concentrate on keeping your head down and making good contact with the ball. No need to swing too hard. Swinging hard will s***w you up. Take some time to get a feel for the greens on the practice green. Getting a feel for the speed of the greens will save you strokes and make up for the crummy shots you're bound to hit.

  6. I suggest you give it a miss. It's not proper for you to take part in your current situation as it is NOT advisable. You might damage some property Or even injure someone while attempting to hit the ball. You will be a danger to others, and may become a liability to your company. And forget about the terms for the moment.

I suggest you take golf lessons first and then get a valid handicap BEFORE you even embark on an actual game, let alone a competition!

  7. Not to worry! Golf is a sport to be enjoyed by everyone! Make sure you bring a cooler of beer and cigars. Most of the guys in my office don't really care if can play or not. The objective is just to have a lot of fun. Borrow some clubs and buy a bucket of range balls. Bring them along on the course as you will probably need quite a few your first time out.

Just swing away and "let the big dog eat"

    Enjoy!

  8. No disrespect , but a tournament is the wrong thing for you to participate in at this point , you should have some knowledge of the game, rules ,regulations , terminology ,etiquette and of course what club is for what type of shot and distance , All I can say is just try to have fun Golf is a Great Game , maybe seek some lessons in the near future get fitted for some clubs and enjoy the game .
