if you were born in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Samoa, Guam or in one of the 50 states you are not Puerto Rican......you are an American citizen of Puerto Rican ancestry...just as a Martinelli born in New York is Italian American or an O'Rourke born in Boston is Irish American...........you are American going ( I assume) from America ( NYC?) to America (PR). You need a photo id; a birth certificate at a minimum.

Now, if you can get a passport before your trip,do so; it makes life alot easier.

No passport is needed to go to Puerto Rico if you are Puertorican.  I travel every year and I know, I'm Puertorican; all you need is a picture I.D., preferably a government one.

Puerto Rico = Part of America, so as long as you're living in the US you don't need anything but a plane ticket.

No sweety if ur coming from the USA to Puerto Rico then you dont need a Passport 'cause we are consider part of the USA plus we have American Citizenship too. Just in case ... we do have the same currency as well. =o)

But is ALWAYS a good idea to have a passport on hand in case you decide to go somewhere else later on, like Dominican Republic or any other islands near us that are not part of the USA. Or just for future travel !

I went to puerto rico and did not need a passport.



As a commonwealth of the United States, American citizens require only valid proof of identity to enter Puerto Rico, and when arriving from the mainland, there is no immigration control.

U.S. citizens should take note, however, that to enter or re-enter the mainland United States from any non-territory point in the Caribbean, you must present a valid passport. If your vacation includes multiple stops, or if you plan to visit some of the nearby islands, bringing your passport is a must.

Since you are going to another country,I think that it is wise that you bring a passport.  The laws might be different in Puerto Rico then they are here in America. Bring a passport just in case.

Someone born in Puerto Rico is a born U.S. citizen. You did not used to have to bring passports traveling either way.

Now however I believe their are new rules when leaving the U.S. that you need to bring a passport.  Just like to travel to Canada.  In the past you didn't need a passport to go to Canada, but now you do.  Thank the terrorists.

Puerto Rico is a US Territory so a passport is not necessary to enter or return from there.  As well as the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and another US territory.

But it is advisable that you get one because you can never tell where you will end up going or the plane gets diverted to, etc...

No Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth and as such you are guaranteed US citizenship.You will need some form of picture ID to get thru security and the passport is the best form...drivers license or US government issued ID is next best.
