So, I'm sick of tired of busting my butt for good grades in school, and the stupid slackers still getting a decent grade because SOME OF the stupid teachers cut slack, and the dumb government comes up with idiotic stuff like no child left behind. Teachers, what are your opinions? Students too!

  1. I agree that it is ridiculous.

HOWEVER.  Don't make the mistake of comparing to others, or slacking off because you feel others are "getting away with it".

You are cheating yourself if you do not continue to do the very best you can do.  Take advantage of all of your education whether you feel you are an on even playing field or not.

Why?  Because when you are beyond high school and in college or the workplace you will be a confident and intellegent person who knows how to apply herself.   Those that did not and or passed on when they didn't earn it will look like dumbasses.

  2. I am not a teacher and I would not put up with the c**p they do for twice their pay. Teachers are not stupid. They busted their butts to go to school to teach you and other little self-center jerks to help make this a better world. I am not going to comment on the dumb government cause you are not too far off base. However, the "no student left behind" hurts not only the hard working student, which you claim to be, but the teacher who has to spend extra time keeping up with paper work and jumping through hoops. You are in school to learn as much as you can so you can grow and continue learning and hopefully help make this a better world. If some Special Ed student or the slacker as you call them are able to stay in school and learn something and provide a part of or all of their income because they have an education or a diploma, we are all better off.The point is not about whose grade is higher or much higher than another person's grade. It is about learning. You learn. You get out of school. You go on to college. You get yourself a good job and do something you and your family can be proud of. Being lazy, spouting self pity and blaming others ain't it.  Yes, I know ain't isn't correct English. But then I was a slacker until I was fifty.

  3. Teachers who "cut slack" frustrated me in school...and they frustrate me now as a college professor because I have to teach their poorly-prepared students!

...but there really isn't a lot you can do about this...except to take comfort in the fact that it eventually catches up with those slackers in some way...for a few, it catches up with them when they take my class and discover that I don't accept any excuses and grade totally on performance instead of feelings...for others, it catches up to them in the workplace and they find themselves in a dead-end job.

My advice is to forget about other people and concentrate on yourself...you are learning a valuable skill that will help you in the long run, and even if the grades don't reflect the true amount of learning and performance in some classes, you will eventually be rewarded when you are able to compete in college and the workplace.  ...and don't forget that even those teachers that cut slack for others can tell the difference between you and the slackers.  I took a class once (in college), in which all but one student received an A...and only two of us actually "busted our butts" doing the work.  While I was ticked off at the unfairness of the grading, I was the only student that received a letter of recommendation from that professor!

  4. I'm in graduate school. My teachers expect more from me because I am smart and talented. I'm proud that they do. It makes me a stronger and better student. I learn more. Okay, ya, some slackers get good grades on a paper that I could have written in Jr. High. I was upset. Then I thought about it. You know, I'm learning more. I'm growing more. Most of all, I am stretching myself more. Of course, when I was in high school, this just upset me. I couldn't see the bigger picture. When you are smart, things can come so easily. Take it as a compliment that your teachers care so much about you that they expect excellence. They expect more because they know you can do more. Take a deep breath, relax, and know that if your teachers didn't expect more from you, you wouldn't have an opportunity to be extraordinary.

  5. It all comes down to politics.  Since some subjects in school are subjective, you have to kiss butt in order to get an A.  That is why I prefer objective right or wrong classes such as math.

  6. OMG me tooo! I took an english class at my community college last semester and I was like the only one who came to class every day and showed up on time! Ppl would walk in like 20 and 40 minutes late. One girl would do her makeup in her seat and play with her hair and pop her gum the text on her phone each class! I worked my *** off in that class and the teacher just handed out passing grades to everyone, and it was just like why!????Then in my art classes the project took me all weekend to do, i had to spend a whole weekend each weekend working on these massive projects and when we went to critique i looked around and ppls art was ****!!! They must have spent a few hours painting and even did things wrong like forgot to include the right colors or objects in the painting and they didnt care! And the teacher just gave them a critque like oh ok so you decided not to use the objects i gave you, thats different! And i was like ummm no they didnt pay attention in class and didnt listen, thats why they didnt use the objects! And they all ended up with passing grades and it just urks me!!!

  7. ya im a student and that is getting me mad too. I generally smart so teachers expect alot from me and its hard for them to give me an A, but if some stupid kid turns in something that is kindof good the teacher will always give them an A.

  8. Well I am assuming by "stupid" you are degrading and using derogatory terms for those who have IEPs or a need for Special Education.  Also grades have no effect on No Child Left Behind, standardized tests do.  So lets debunk that too.

As far as teachers cutting slack for some and not others.  That is simply wrong and unfair.  If you feel like this issue needs to be addressed you need to speak with your principal.

  9. Well I'm out of high school but when I was in school I felt the same way. I couldn't stand it when I busted my butt to get an A in a class and the lazy drughead behind me gets an A too only because the teacher feels sorry for him, not all teachers do it but a lot of them do. I also didn't like it when I do all my work throughout the school year and at the end of the year the teacher allows all of the lazy kids to make up the work that they should have done in the beginning, I don't think that's fair. But, I just tried to ignore it and pass all my classes so I can get the h**l outta there.

  10. Think of it differently.

The point of school is not the grades.

The people who are slacking may get a small payoff now (a grade) but will have huge difficulties later in life.

The people who are busting their butt (you) are going to be a success. YOU are the one who has the correct attitude and skills that will transfer into the job market. You have dreams and goals that will be met through sheer determination. the slacker will fall into some job eventually. So pay less attention to what others are doing - and start working toward that dream of yours.

  11. I had the same problem, worked my butt off for good grades and watched others wipe the dust off their books at the end of the semester.  Then again after h.s. i got a job working in a school.  They had to let me go because of the NCLB Act, because i did not have a teaching degree.  it was the best job I ever had!
