the only other way you could do this ?

is to write to your country ?

    Consular

    (1) Issue of Passports

Sri Lanka's representatives overseas are empowered to act on behalf of the Controller, Immigration/Emigration of Sri Lanka who is responsible for issuance of travel documents to Sri Lanka. As provided by the Immigrants & Emigrants Act No. 20 of 1948, Sri Lankan representatives abroad issue Passports and other travel documents to Sri Lankan's living in those countries. However, with the introduction of machine readable Passports, Sri Lankan Passports are issued only by the Controller, Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Missions abroad therefore only accepts applications from Sri Lankan's for the issue of new Passports which will be issued by the Sri Lankan Immigration & Emigration Department in Colombo. Sri Lankan's living in South Africa and neighboring countries can obtain the applications for new Passports from the High Commission office by calling over at the office or sending a self-addressed stamped envelope. The duly perfected applications with relevant fees must be sent to this Mission to process before forwarding them to the controller immigration and emigration, for the issue of a passport.

    (2) Renewal and alterations of Passports

Sri Lanka citizens can apply for renewal and alterations of their passports at the High Commission. Requests for such services should be accompanied by the following documents.

    a) Relevant form duly filled

    b) The required fees payable as follows (Current fees w.e.f. 10 January 2001)

Please note that the basic consular fees have remained constant, however the Rand equivalent fees have had to be increased due to exchange rate.):

        - New Passports : SA Rands 1500/-..

        - For renewal per year: SA Rand 25/-

        - For alterations/endorsements: SA Rand 60/-

Non-machine readable passports: SA Rands 315/ (If applicant also applies for a regular passport. If no application is made, administration charge of Rands 300/ is added bringing total cost to SA Rands 615/)

    c) If payment is made in the form of a Bank Draft/Money Order/Cheque/ other than cash, the applicant has to pay the following amounts indicated below, in addition to the fees payable for the above consular services.

    Amount for Consular Service

Bank Charges for Drafts from S.A. banks (except from First National Bank)

Bank Charges for cheques / drafts drawn outside S.A.

    Up to Rands 1000/-

    Rands 65/-

    Rands 110/-

    Over Rands 1000/-

    Rands 95/-

    Rands 110/-

Please note: Banks charge fees for each cheque/ draft drawn. If an applicant sends two seperate cheques/ drafts: one, to cover consular fees and another, to cover corresponding bank fees- the bank will levy fees on each cheque/ draft drawn. To avoid delay in processing your application, please send one payment totaling applicable consular fees and applicable bank charges. There is no charge for First National Bank (FNB) cheques/drafts or for postal money orders in SA Rands.

Personal cheques will not be accepted due to delays in encashment.

    d) Supporting documents (marriage certificate, children's birth certificate etc.)

The duly perfected application form should be mailed to the following address together with the passport and other documents required.

    High Commission of Sri Lanka

    410 Alexander Street
