  1. Im 13 years old and Ive never heard of the suger water thing, but i always drink a bottle of water an hour before a race. You dont need to worry about eating energy food that much just make sure u dont eat anything too harsh on the stomach the night before or day of the race.  I eat a small bowl of cherrios the morning of the race. Just dont fill yourself with water when your about to run.

TAKE IT EASY!!! Dont go out on your first 5k competively. Get to know the distance and the pace you should be running at. Your next race, you can go a little faster if u want, and when u do enough like me, u can run competively.

Dont worry at all about your place. 5ks are meant to be fun and there is always people pushing strollers in the back.

Good luck n hope u have fun!

  2. well hopefully you've trained a little bit beforehand.  I try not to eat that much before a race, especially if it's in the morning.  I try not to eat for up to 3 or 4 hours before to avoid stomach cramps.  when you do eat though make sure it fills you up so you're not starving before the race and have no energy.  a SMALL quick something like powerbar or other "good for you" snack before would probably be ok though.  whatever's best for you--if you have no problem with cramps, then that might not help you the most.  as for pace, don't start off too fast, pick it up in the last mile, mile and a half or so.  my personal pace is around 8 min. miles consistently and i am 14 yr old girl, but I don't run much so...  also warm up a bit--it definitely helps.  good luck!

  3. Sugar water like 30 minutes before you start.
