I'm 14 years old and i have written 3 musicals. I write the lines, the piano, the lyrics, the blocking, everything. I put on one of them that I wrote when I was 11 in my living room. Now I will soon be putting my 3rd one on at a college theater. I have costumes and props and a piano and everything I need but I was hoping maybe somebody with expirience could give me any advice on how I should do some things. Like making a girl float. I was thinking of putting her on a sheet and having 4 people (one for each corner) lifting her up while i walk under it acting as though I'm making her float with my magical powers. Hahaha... But I don't know if that would work that well. Any other ideas? Or any kind of advice?

  1. I'm sure they all suck.

  2. I do not know that question right off.  But a little advise, when you write something or music, take the original and mail it to your self and when it arrives, do not open it.  That way people do not steal your work, and you can claim ownership.   Just a piece of advise.

  3. you are super smart, keep it up!!

  4. First of all that is a huge accomplishment . Good job.

  5. Ask the tech people in the theatre. They have flying suspension cords. They are used to lift people and sometimes set and backdrops.

  6. Look up

    Peter Pan

and what various different stage crews did to make him fly.

and since you are so successful, are you making $! from this?

and if you are making $! from your efforts, are you being taxed on what you make? if so, don't ever let your representative tell you that you are too young to vote or express your opinion, you may be suffering from TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

and we all know where that leads.

    Lets Roll!

    .

  7. I wouldn't suggest doing that, (one person trips, big crash)

You could possibly use a smoke machine, give the illusion of floating.

    covered up roller skates

A box with wheels (get somebody to push it)

  8. what my friend did (which is a producer on Broadway) was that they built a box type of thing that could roll. then they put a black sheet over it. then another sheet that didn't hang over with a different color. and a person was dressed in black inside the "box" and was wheeling her around making it look like she was flying, or floating.

  9. First of all, KUDOS to you. An extreme effort to pull off and manage all that together, even for those with far more experience. I suspect your PASSION at your age, is so much the drive.

As a former and long time Props Master, I do have some thoughts or questions.

Not knowing at all if you've presented this piece in regard to WHO the Production staff/crew is, and not knowing at all the venue, or it's mechanics or capabilities, FLYING is often a natural part of many theatrical performances. Certainly that would depend on the venue, and crew.

"Easy" IF you have the rigging capabilities would be to have the person in a harness, even in some sense of an Angel, or Superman, with legs, feet, pointing to the stage.

To actually LEVITATE someone, as magicians do in their illusions might be more complicated, budget restricted, and Liability issues might be considered. It is THEATER, and ACTING is very specifically defined in its purpose.

Since you don't offer the context of the scene, a SHEET as a sole support for the GIRL, might be a bit risky. How a SHEET might also relate to the context of the scene might be totally abstract, unless she happened to be laying on a bed at the time,,,in which case, with the proper rigging, the entire bed might  be levitated.

You need not offer the details in the context here, but they will matter. What you should pat yourself on the back for however is the fact that you are where you are at your age.

       I wish you ALL GOOD.

Added thought: You should at least allow e mail, and be selective about it.

  10. Keep up with musicals

  11. second of all you should try getting a magician, ok how about a ladder with some props in front so they dont know what she's standing on, or maybe the obvious ropes and wire that hold people up normally on stages, or you could try attaching her to some thing to hold her up like a big board (get ideas on how to attach her :P) and cover the bottom part of that board that shows, since her body is covering the top part , and thats all i got lol but goodluck! and be safe with the poor girl thats floating xP
