I took 4-5 classes a week from ages13-18, skill level: Intermediate to beg. advanced. Took sporadic class here and there in my life. Now I am 40, still very slender and of light weight,(under 100 lbs) and wish to return to Ballet, especially en pointe (after working up to it again of course) to perform in recitals/performances. Possible, or am I dancing up the wrong tree?

  1. well, i hate to burst your bubble but going on pointe is not the best thing to do. in fact, most dancers stop going on pointe by the time they are forty. however, you can still do ballet on demi for recreational purposes but your legs probably and strong enough to go back on pointe without injury. sorry.

  2. I don't know how to put it mildly, but ahem, you're 40 years old. By now, you probably know that stranger's opinions of what you can or cannot do, should or should not do are completely irrelevalt. Sure you can go en point if your feet allow you, but that's true for any person of any age. Your progress might be slower than you wanted but faster than you really expected.

  3. Hmmm it's a bit risky, you still need to take a begining adult class and see if you can do it.  I recomend tap dance because it really strengthens your ankles.

  4. Of course you should return!

All though my step mother took ballet for 20 years and then returned and could do pointe but it was VERY hard for her so she just continued to take advanced ballet classes.

But if you have enough time to commit to it and the drive to do it, then go for it!

  5. you should definitely start doing ballet again!

i don't know you so i don't know if you should do pointe or not, it could be a little dangerous depending on how you've aged

i once saw a woman who was very old en pointe at broadway dance center

go for your dream, but i would get some advice from professionals that know you first!
