  1. If you'll be eligible for unemployment due to the buyout, many states have special 'funds' available for people in your situation, becoming unemployed due to buyouts etc, for special re-training for entry into teaching :-).

    Check with your employer to determine if you're going to be eligible for unemployment as part of your severance pkg (you should get one), and then contact your local unemployment office - or look for their website online to find out what you can before you even call :-).

    Otherwise, if all those fail, some federal student loans will be forgiven or cancelled once you get your teaching degree and start teaching.  They usually forgive one years' tuition for each year you teach, or some similar ratio (and these days, it could be better or worse).
