I'm a 5'8 cornerback redshirting my first year of college ball to add weight. What's a good target poundage?

I've got 4.50 speed, so I can cover a guy alright even with my low height. But I need to put on muscle to compete at the next level. I play in the less competitive CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport).

  1. If you don't have this question answered by now it won't matter!

  2. 5'8" is short and a 4.5 time in the 40 is average for a DB.  I bet you weigh probably 175 at most so I'd say your playing time will be limited.  At only 5'8" you are going to be very limited as to putting on any weight, your frame just will not support much without you losing your average 4.5 speed.

  3. The best way to add weight is to eat protein, and lift with your legs. You should also make sure you run, so that you don't lose speed. 4.5 is decent, but you really don't want to get slower, unless you make a move to safety. Gain weight if you can, but don't go overboard, unless you are playing mostly running teams.

  4. Try using the protein diet and let it take you there.  Keep running daily to make sure you don't lose your 4.5 speed, thats a decent time!

    Good Luck!

  5. 4.5 aint bad if u gonna get redshirted

  6. the difference between a 4.5 and 4.4 is a barely any, dont worry about ur speed. when u build muscle speed will come......hersh p doesnt know what he is talking about

  7. 4.5

  8. 4.5 u better transform to a linebacker, u gonna get burnedddddd every time w/ that speed especially after u gain weight.  for 5 8, 175-195 should be a good weight.

oh didn't read u play for a canadian league, i guess 4.5 should be okay there
