  1. Settle down seito this he wasnt asking for the book on how to play.

Dude if you are lucky you will be a setter in college. It will require a lot more skill then middle blocker. Work on your jumping and spiking and work on outside hitter. Even universal would be fun if you are a good blocker.

Good luck just making a college team though

  2. The set is usually the second contact a team makes with the ball. The main goal of setting is to put the ball in the air in such a way that it can be driven by an attack into the opponent's court. The setter coordinates the offensive movements of a team, and is the player who ultimately decides which player will actually attack the ball.

As with passing, one may distinguish between an overhand and a bump set. Since the former allows for more control over the speed and direction of the ball, the bump is used only when the ball is so low it cannot be properly handled with fingertips, or in beach volleyball where rules regulating overhand setting are more stringent. In the case of a set, one also speaks of a front or back set, meaning whether the ball is passed in the direction the setter is facing or behind the setter. The setter usually stands about 2/3 of the way from the left to the right of the net and faces the left (the larger portion of net that he can see).

Sometimes a setter refrains from raising the ball for a teammate to perform an attack and tries to play it directly onto the opponent's court. This movement is called a "dump". The most common dumps are to 'throw' the ball behind you in front of you to zones 2 and 4. More experienced setters toss the ball into the deep corners or spike the ball on the second hit.

  3. if u are start practicing for it now, setters seem like they have a lot of hand teqniques and footwork that other players usually dont learn.

  4. If you're worried about how to set, try the link below. (scroll down near the bottom of the page).

  5. Lots of touches will help.  Ask your coach if you can take the second contact when the setter takes the first (in college and internationally, both men and women, the middle is the person taking the 2nd contact when setter takes the 1st.  If your coach looks into it he will see that too).  At 6' 3" you could also play outside if you hit well or opposite, especially if you have all that practice blocking.  Don't forget to have fun now.  Your college coach will put you (and your entire team) in the best position to succeed.  Good Luck.
