I would really like to know about the Starbucks lingo. Like everything about it so I can make an educated decision on what to get. Treat me like I'm 3 years old so I can understand this unique language. Don't leave anything out. Please and Thank you :)

Also, I like to drink coffee, with cream or milk and sugar. Are there any special caffinated hot drinks that I can order that will be yummy and wake me up in the morning but not to sugary, as this is usually my goal in the morning.

Thanks in advance :)

  1. Starbucks is a "scene" place and really is actually just about as quality as Mc. Donalds, the beans are cheep, the waters stagnant, and the brewing is less than acceptable for even a minor conesuer. Burger kings ice'd coffe is actually considerably better, but the key to good coffie is to find a local cafe that isn't a franchise or atleast very small. If you insist on drinking starbucks stuff then I would recomend their frapachino (blended Ice'd coffies) because the ice dulls down the stomach turning burnt tast of starbucks products. As far as vocabulary and considering the type of stuff you like I would say your a Mocha or Cappacino person, a Cappacino is actually an american drink FYI.

  2. Everything they have is delicious. I reccomend the White Chocolate Mocha (hot, but cold is good too.) But I mostly drink their flavored frappucinos, mmmMMM!

  3. dont listen to anything mrs water says. shes extreemly ignorant. starbucks is actually very high in quality. they pay their coffee farmers  a lot. and they help their families and towns a lot.

    tall is small

    grande is medium

venti is large (venti means 22, venti cups are 22 OZ.)

i think you should try a grande white mocha

or an upside down caramel macchiato.

macchiato just means "marked with foam"

(syrup first.... then millk.. a little foam.. then espresso.. then caramel.)

upside down means to stir it.

if you dont say upside down they wont stir it. they will just make it regular.

    or just ask the barista.

  4. You can be ignorant to the starbucks lingo and still get great drinks.  For a beginner, I'd recommend a latte to start.  Lattes are espresso and steamed milk.  So, it tastes like a really creamy cup of coffee.  You can get flavor shots in them too.  Vanilla and hazelnut are good ones to start out.  But, starbucks usually puts 4 shots of flavor--waaaayyyy too much sugar.  So, I usually ask them to only put 2 shots of vanilla in mine.  You also need to consider the kind of milk you want.  I always get skim.  They have whole, 2%, skim, and soy...maybe more, but I'm not certain.  And then you need your size.  In starbucks lingo, small = tall, medium = grande, large = venti.  Why?  Who knows.  So, here let's pretend you're at the starbucks counter.  We'll practice with my usual drink.  I walk up and say, I'd like a tall non-fat latte with 2 pumps of vanilla.  That tells them I want a small latte with skim milk and only half vanilla.  I think you can also order it as a tall, skinny, half-vanilla latte.  But, I'm just not that chic I guess.

You can also try cappuccinos, which are basically similar to lattes, but have more frothy, foamy milk on top.  All the size and flavors apply to them as well.

On a hot day, try their frappuccinos.  This is basically a coffee milkshake.  It's high in calories, but you can get a light version.  For instance, I like to get a tall java chip light frappuccino.  This is a small, chocolate-chip plus coffee drink, but made with less sugar and calories than the original.

The lingo applies to all the drinks, so once you get it down, you'll be fine.  You can also go in and say I'd like a small coffee, and they won't look down on you or anything. :)  Good luck and happy coffee drinking.   One last note, don't forget your local mom and pop coffee shops.  Always support local vendors!

  5. Once you get the sizes down, and figure out what U like it's easy. Just name the size, basic order, then any modifications. For example my regular order is:

A tall vanilla bean Frappuccino no whip

    Size: Tall

    Basic order: Vanilla bean Frappuccino\

    Modifications: No whip-cream

  6. it's good to get started with a latte it's just whole milk and espresso, if you prefer soy milk or non fat milk say it when you order.  they have a condiment bar so you add your own sugar.  short and tall sizes both have 1 shot of espresso so if you want your coffee strong i'd recommend you get the smaller size which is the short cup. grande and venti cups have 2 shots of espresso, again if you want it stronger get the grande size because it's got less milk. then again you can just just add an espresso shot if you don't mind paying extra.

when you order just say short latte or if you're customizing with an aditional shot of espresso or different milk, it'll go something like, double short non fat latte. there's a lot of things you can add to your drink just ask your barista they're very friendly. welcome to starbucks coffee! ;)

try hot caramel macchiato, it's not that sweet compared to those with mocha syrup.  iced venti caramel macchiato kicks **s!

  7. I have to totally and 100% agree with Mr. water
