I'm a citizen of the U.S. and my fiance is from the U.K. We were hoping to marry (elope) on his next visit, but don't know the first step in the legal process. Is it possible to marry him on US soil without a fiance visa? We are - as yet - unsure of wether we'd like to reside in the US or UK. I am so confused. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

  1. You can marry anywhere you want. If you wish to live here then yes it would be easier to have him come on a fiancee visa before you elope. If you want to stay together you need to make some decisions. If he normally travels to the U.S. without a visa then he will be severly restricted in the time he can remain here and visa waiver travelers are unable to 'adjust' their status.

  2. Here is a good website that can help answer your questions.  It goes into the options of living there, living here, etc.
